Chevrolet had dashboards that failed for many years , you can remove the dash and have it repaired (about $ 300 ) check on line for a repair shop. I had my 2004 repaired and it worked great.
Check the speed sensor on the transmission for loose wires or broken wires ,also in the fuse box one fuse controls the speedometer ,rpm .well the check engine light .usually that's the 20 amp fuse .
It could be a fuse, which may be located in a panel under or either side of the dash. Possible other location in a panel/box in engine bay.
If this is out of your experience, an auto electrician may fix it quite cheaply.
WITH IGNITION SWITCH OFF PRESS AND HOLD BUTTON ON THE TRIP ODOMETER THEN .SWITCH IGNITION ON WITH ENGINE OFF.CONTINUE TO HOLD BUTTON UNTIL MAINTANANCE REQD LAMP EXTINGUISHES RESETTING IS DONE.
if it drives fine off idle then I would suspect the Idle air control valve.
If its hard to start unless you put your foot slightly on the gas then again I would suspect the IAC
