When setting tappets, it has to be born inind that the valve stem wears an indentation into the face of the rocker. This prevents a really accurate tappet adjustment, so the customer is right again. If you do not posess a tappet setting dial gauge, a normal engineers dial gauge will do just as well. The procedure is the same as using your feeler gauge except that you set the dial gauge up on the cylinder head with the pointer resting on the head of the rocker. Press down fairly firmly on the rocker valve end and zero the gauge. Next lift up on the rocker and read off the clearance, from the gauge, Use a magnetic base to support your gauge and repeat the pocedure for each valve pair.

What is the tappert setting on a 1998 Hyunda H100 2.6 diesel bakkie?

The valve clearance specification for a 1998 Hyundai H100 2.6 diesel bakkie is:
Intake valve clearance: 0.25 - 0.35 mm (0.010 - 0.014 in) Exhaust valve clearance: 0.45 - 0.55 mm (0.018 - 0.022 in)
The tappet setting for this engine will depend on the specific valve clearance measurements for each valve. If the valve clearances are found to be outside of the specification, the tappet settings will need to be adjusted accordingly. It is recommended to refer to the manufacturer's service manual for detailed instructions on how to perform the adjustment procedure.

Hey there I need the exhaust and Intake(valve) clearance for a komatsu 300-6 please

note Perform the valve clearance check and adjustment at the engine cold state. 1.Remove all of the ignition coils. 2.Remove the cylinder head cover.
caution Turn the crankshaft always clockwise. 3.Turn the crankshaft clockwise, and align the timing mark on the exhaust camshaft sprocket against the upper face of the cylinder head as shown in Figure. Therefore, No.1 cylinder goes to the compression top dead center. 4.Using a thickness gauge, measure the valve clearance with the arrow shown in Figure. If deviated from the standard value, make note for the valve clearance.
Standard value:

    Intake valve 0.20 ± 0.03 mm (0.008 ± 0.0012 inch)
    Exhaust valve 0.30 ± 0.03 mm (0.012 ± 0.0012 inch)
5.Turn the crankshaft clockwise 360 degrees, and put the timing mark on the exhaust camshaft sprocket in position shown in Figure. Therefore, No. 4 cylinder goes to the compression top dead center. 6.Check the valve clearance with the arrow shown in Figure. In the same procedure as 4.
7.If the valve clearance is deviated from the standard value, remove the camshaft and the valve tappet. For the camshaft removal, refer to Camshaft Removal and Installation . 8.Using a micrometer, measure the thickness of the removed valve tappet. 9.Calculate the thickness of the newly installed valve tappet through the following equation.
A: thickness of newly installed valve tappet
B: thickness of removed valve tappet
C: measured valve clearance
Equation

    Intake valve: A = B + [C - 0.20 mm (0.008 inch)]
Exhaust valve: A = B + [C - 0.30 mm (0.012 inch)] note The valve tappet ranges 3,000 - 3,690 mm (0.1181 - 0.1453 inch) and has 47 types per 0.015 mm (0.0006 inch). The thickness below a decimal point is stamped on the reverse side of the valve tappet. 10.Install the valve tappet selected through the procedure 9, and put the camshaft in position. For the camshaft installation, refer to Camshaft Removal and Installation .
11.After installing the timing chain, measure the valve clearance using the procedure 3 to 6. Confirm the clearance is within the standard value.
caution Completely remove all the old FIPG, which might be remaining among the components. 12.After completely removing the liquid gasket adhering on the timing chain case, cylinder block and cylinder head, degrease them with white gasoline.
caution The cylinder head cover should be installed within 3 minutes of applying liquid gasket.
13.Apply a 4 mm bead of liquid gasket as illustrated.
Specified sealant:
    THREE BOND 1217G or equivalent
14. Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the tightening bolts using the following procedures.
(1) Temporarily tighten to the following torque in order shown in the illustration.
Tightening torque: 3.0 ± 1.0 N·m (27 ± 8 in-lb)(2) Tighten to the specified torque in order shown in the illustration.
Specified torque: 5.5 ± 0.5 N·m (49 ± 4 in-lb)15.Install the ignition coils.

Tappet gap on 1.6 2003 vtec civic

The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The gap is listed on the emission information sticker under the hood. This sticker will have lots of info which includes valve lash. It will be listed in millimeters, example: 0.22 +/- .02mm. Some feeler gauges list both standard and mm measurements, otherwise a conversion can be found without much trouble. This procedure should be done while the engine is cold to get the best results.

I own 95 toyota 4runner. I would like to check.and adjust the valves. Will someone walk me thru the right way of doing this?Thank you.

First of all you will need a decent set of tools. depth feeler gauges, a workshop manual with the valve clearances, and a method of turning the engine by hand. You will need to take off the valve covers. After this you can check each of the valves for clearance by sliding the feeler gauges into the gap between rocker-arm or cam lobe and valve or tappet. Trick is you can only do this when the engine is in the correct position, so consult the manual and rotate the engine by hand accordingly. Remove the spark plugs to make rotating the engine easier. Adjust the tappet to gain the proper clearance as documented in the workshop manual. The feeler gauge should drag just slightly as you slide it out or slide it in. In ideal conditions I would guess this is about a 2~3 hour job, assuming ideal conditions, and not too much stuff in your way that will need to be moved. If your working at home, those are not ideal conditions.

For the record I've only done this sort of job on motorcycles, so I've never actually adjusted tappets. The theory is the same though.

Can you adjust valve clearance on kia optima 2.0 cdti

Depends on the year and engine. The older engines have hydrolic lifters. The newer engines 06 and up with CVVT have solid lifters so you would have to pull the valve covers and use a feeler gauge to measure clearances and replace the tappets accordingly.

How do you set valves on a 1955 331 engine

Engine cold, you set the Intake valve clearance at .0005 to .0025
(.0005 = 5 ten-thousands, or also said as 1/2 thousandths.
.0025 = 2 and a half thousandths)

Set the Exhaust at .001 to .0025
(1 thousandths, to 2 and a half thousandths)

Use a feeler gauge. The Firing Order is just like a Chevy. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Adjust these mechanical tappets, just like you would for any Chevy engine with mechanical tappets.

I'm looking for the 2000 isuzu rodeo 3.2L v6 connecting rod bearings torque specs.

1. Check the connecting rod alignment If either the bend or the twist exceeds the specified limit, the connecting rod must be replaced. Bend per 100 mm (3.937 inch) Limit: 0.15 (0.0059) Twist per 100 mm (3.937 inch) Limit: 0.20 (0.0078)

2. Measure the connecting rod thrust clearance. Use a feeler gauge to measure the thrust clearance at the large end of the connecting rod If the clearance exceeds the specified limit, the connecting rod must be replaced. Standard: 0.16 mm - 0.35 mm (0.0063 inch - 0.0138 inch) Limit: 0.40 mm (0.0157 inch)

3. Measure the oil clearance between the connecting rod and the crankshaft.

    1. Remove the connecting rod cap nuts and the rod caps (12). Arrange the removed rod caps in the cylinder number order.
    2. Clean the rod bearings and the crankshaft pins.
      1. Carefully check the rod bearings. If even one bearing is found to be damaged or badly worn, the entire bearing assembly must be replaced as a set. Reinstall the bearings in their original positions. Apply plastigage to the crank pin.
      2. Reinstall the rod caps (12) to their original positions. Tighten the rod cap nuts. Torque: 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.) Note: Do not allow the crankshaft to rotate.
      3. Remove the rod caps.
        1. Measure the width of the plastigage and determine the oil clearance. If the oil clearance exceeds the limit, replace the rod bearing as a set. Standard: 0.019 mm - 0.043 mm (0.0007 inch - 0.0017 inch) Limit: 0.08 mm (0.003 inch)
        2. Clean the plastigage from the bearings and the crankshaft pins.
