If it has a cable type remote release, check the cable for kinks or rubbish jamming its mechanism.
Have a look at the latch, you should be able to click it shut with the shank of a screwdriver .
If it does lock, then the latch or the striker needs adjustment, if it doesn't click shut with the screwdriver then it will probably be the cable .

This can be cause by one of two things....

#1 The latch isn't lining up with the lock. Look closly at the lock assembly as it comes down on the latch the insure that enverything is going where it fits. If not use a screwdriver to pry, or soft blows with a mallet to move the latch.

#2 The lock isn't open. Look inside the lock as you use the key to open the trunk. Now with the key turned as you would to open the trunk, make sure the latching mechanism of the lock is open to allow the latch to slide into place. Use a screw driver to open it if it is stuck. A little WD-40 will cure it is this is the problem.

Good Luck

Does anyone sale a replacement battery for the 2004 Volkwagon Jetta TDI other than the Volkswagon Dealer?

Hi

Any car shop should be able to provide you with a suitable battery for any car. Dealer prices are very high. Check the yellow pages for a car shop near you "auto-part store" hope that helps

2003 VW Jetta trunk does not open

most likely cause is latch cover plastic has broken and got lodged in the latch mechanism. now the fun part, fold down back seat , slide into trunk with a phillips screwdriver a flashlight and a large strait blade screwdriver, once in trunk remove trunk cover, then with strait blade unlatch the trunk. once lid is open remove latch and take out broken plastic to free up latch and reinstall then retest before closing trunk.

the hinges for the trunk will need replacing. not the shocks. about $60 a piece from VW. do it yourself about 4 bolts. just get someone to hold the trunk for you. its not necessary to paint the new hinges

It is your wiring coming out of the trunk on the left side. One of the wire are cut because in cold weather when you open the trunk, wire can't move easily in the plastic tube. Sorry for my english.
