2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't CRANK - battery is fine.

My 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't start. When you turn the key starter is silent, no clicking, nothing, but all of the lights, radio, power seats, windows etc. work fine. The Transmission over temp message flashes quickly when you turn the key to off, but the temp on the guage never comes close to being high. The battery is fine and I've checked all of the connections. This has happened three times now and I just leave it for a few hours and it starts right up. Anyone know what this could be?

My Jeep has been starting just fine since March, although I am not sure what actually fixed the problem. One morning, I went out to start it and again, it would not start. I have two sets of keys, with remote starters so I went inside to get the other set of keys and tried to start it with both remote starters and still - nothing happened. Finally, out of pure frustration, I rapidly turned the key to the one and then off position and it started right up and I haven't had a problem since. I read somewhere that doing this is a code to re-start the computer so that may have been the solution - although, it could have been something with the remote starter. I know that this is not much of an answer but it worked for me!

OMG I'm having same problem with my 07 Grand Cherokee. Identical situation in terms of it starts fine in the morning when its cold etc... but after driving for like 20mins then trying to start again it doesn't start. After waiting several hrs its fine again ... and like OP mentioned when I turn key off it displays the message "trans over temp" for like 1 sec. So frusterating my tow bill was $215, seriously considering to trade it in.

  • Anonymous Sep 14, 2012

i have had the same problem took it all over then took it to my dad whern i went to visit him he checked everything and found out it was the wires going to the starter were coroded he replaced them and everything was fine after that ..after about $1500 dollars later between tow bills and dealers it was the wires to the starter they cost about $20 dollars to replace but its hard getting to the starter you should be fine after that

What is the current status? I purchased a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee from CarMax in December, 2009. The first time it wouldn't start was the beginning of March. The dealership could not duplicate the issue. Happened again a month later, they said it was the wireless remote module and that was replaced. Couple months later, happened again. They said it was the key module. That was replaced. Friday night, happened again. I'm waiting for a tow truck Monday morning. Does anyone know the real underlying issue and the resolution?

Did Stacey did you find out what the issue was? We are going thru the same thing with our 2007. We have had it to one private garage and two dealerships. They started by replacing the ignition switch. A week later dealership #1 replaced the module. Two weeks later it happened again and they replaced the starter. A few months later it happened again and dealership #2, after having the vehicle for four days couldn't diagnose the problem. It was fine till today .

  • Anonymous Sep 14, 2012

change the wires to the starter they were corded on mine ..change them anyway the problem will go away

  • Anonymous May 31, 2013

Same issue just started w our 2007. Dealer said starter wires were frayed. Wants to charge $595 for it!

all those words, and never said (piggy backers)
no crank once, why? this OP post is no cranks.
sure we do, we use voltmeter to find all NO crank cause. 1 to 11 tests.https://www.jeepdied.com/no-crank.html
    there are many causes.
and not scanning , failed to crank
    is A LOSE /LOSE.

    the PCM energizes the relay,
so if the PCM seens tranny TRS errors it wont crank. either.
    http://jeepdied.com/no-crank.html

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2016

green lugs is step one, in the 11 checks.
there are 4 ends of those cables
all clean and tight works, at 500 AMPs.
you can hot wire the starter 2 ways.
if it cranks now, what did you learn
batter main cables and starter are ok
    in 5min work.
    leaving what.
    PCM unhappy (TRS bad)
    or RELAY BAD. for starter.
    easy no?
    with a $10 voltmeter x10 more easy.

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2016

    gotta love dealer RIPS.
$50 job labor, max $50 parts, and 6x prices
    stealerships sux

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2016

why go to stealerships for cooper....?
any shop can fix cables, its like 10grade shop class level. (pull neg lug first
put back last) any kid can do it once shown once, all our kids did.

So I was curious has anyone figured out a true solution to this problem? I have a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it is not starting as of yesterday! I am having the exact symptoms as these posts and I'm curious if anyone has fixed it completely. I have read starter, ignition switch, and module works temporarily and something about the anti-theft system. What is it?

..and now it won't start. Battery is fine. Was told to check the fuses for a possible miswiring problem. No luck yet

I'm having the exact same problem on our 07 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Same as all of you been to the garage nothing fixed it. I called Chrysler about the problem and they said they haven't heard anything about it. So Please start calling them and if they hear from all of us maybe they will do something.

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2016

so 4 years later you have same problem
no crank, not sure if this post is fixha
    matched (the skynet brain dead)
    or a real post.
but cranks are not no starts
    apples and orangehttps://www.jeepdied.com/no-crank.html

lemon cars dont exist. 7 years old, wow.
    they are from mechanics, that
1: are untrained or lack tools. or lack the knowledge to use them.
2: too lazy to do the job right.

there are exceptions, but even those go low
for example my bosses ford exploreR
nobody can find the noise (3 DEALERS, 3 ASE SHOPS)
turns out, something IS loOSE in BOX frame
so ford gives him a new car.
found this with our WIFI 8 CHANNEL
    SONIC EAR STETHOSCOPE!
AMAZING WHAT TOOLS CAN DO EVEN CHEAP ONES.

  • Anonymous Jan 31, 2016

your car is 7 years old
    posted to 2010 post
the car, is not in warranty
that means we get to fix it ourselfs
now that full ownership is us.
no car on earth fails to not fail for dead starters
no starting systems made last life of engine
    nor car, its called Entropy
ages and dies just like people and the whole universe.. ever our SUN.
so what does a real mech,do
    lots
    im not listing them.
but we use a magic tool to DIAGNOSE this
    issue, OP, NO CRANK ,
    nut shell,
    fuses
    check battery
    hot wire starter.
good, no, bad starter if battery and it cables good.
    no
the i check key line since the starter hotwires prefect
if intermittent, i put that hat on
    and do x.. ask.

Change the Starter Relay!!!
They go bad and can cause intermittant problems
In a pinch if the part numbers match on the A/C Clutch relay, swap them and if the car starts then just replace the relay.
About $18.00 at NAPA
Buy a SPARE!!!

no, if the TSB, SHOW NO STARTER ISSUES
THERE ARE NO ISSUES. got that?
log in to Mitchells and read your TSB and learn.?
AND GEE, ALL 7 YEAR OLD CARS are failing starters,, now.,, ask you auto store how many starters they sell?
    HUGE business.

    why?
they only last that long.! for sure city use, short drives , over and over.
sorry or that poor start relay.

    Relays.
old tech relays are a short lived (relics)
    Jules Vern relics.
ive built solid state relays for this.
so do the newer jeeps do this...
kicking relays 1 by 1 to the curb.
in the non car real industry we've had this for 30 years.(SSR) cars are just catching up.

i love the attitude that Chrysler
    now FIAT!
owes you a new car (or free fix) if after 7 long years it fails. wow. what dream that is....????
    sorry but is fact

next time start your own post

My 2008 Jeep GC doing the same thing, all lights, battery, everything works Also flashes the transmission warning but you can hear it clicking under the dash. Did it to me a week ago, then started ran fine all week and then did it again today. Haven't tried to start it again and my certified Chrysler garage has never heard of it sounds like a pretty common problem. I've received no answers

This is a very common problem on these jeeps, the problem is corrosion buildup on the small wire at the starter(called the S wire). 99% of the time wiggling this wire will get you up and running, the correct repair would be a new wire connector soldered in with a dab of dielectric grease. Unfortunately this is a little difficult to reach and may take a skilled hand. Check your starter for corrosion too, it might be time to replace both while you're in there.

    that is not crazy
any loose wiring to battery or starter
or green rusty lugs, or loose lugs do that
its uses up to 500 amps current there.
and takes perfect connections to flow that current. or it fails, hard.

100 years now same deal, tin Lizzy to now.
the loose parts can be at starter.
    or on the key line
    or even a bad battery
    batteries are weak technology! fact.
they don't last long, (as short as 3 years)
    some crack inside.
and some short inside, and can both be intermittant
    and shock sensitive.
    easy.
    so no crazy.'
    -------------------real deals--------------
my story, only was 16yr old
drove my PU 20miles out of town to lumbar yard
started it up, and failed (dead)
    battery weak (evidence)
removed battery, and rolled it on ground 1 turn top to bottom!
put it backin PU (internal short gone)
    and back in business! weeeeeee
    so
next time stuck in a snow bank ,consider this
and the other 3 tricks here
    https://www.jeepdied.com/no-crank.html

    can save your lives.
I was car nut at 14, restoring 3 cars and 2 motorcycles, before draft. (all bad news that)

I have been dealing with this problem for over a year now. 2 new starters , battery, and some ingnition modular . Cant count how many tow jobs we needed.Loss of work , being stranded. I am a single mom of two, and I have had the car back at least 8 times and they tell me I don't know what to tell you it started. Here the funny thing they wont buy it back because they know it will be their liability then. Does anyone know of the lemon law or any other act that would help me?? PLEASE LET ME KNOW [email protected]

    Your 2014 post is 4years past OP's 2010 post.
all those words, and not one symptoms stated
    how sad,,,
hint find a real ASE shop
    and avoid stealerships like plague.
THEy dont buy back 7 year cars
its called a tradein, or sell it.

really find a real shop with men that wont guess., they drive car for 3 days some.
ask them , they drive it home and back to shop at 8am, oops stalls. or>

    learn this.
90% shops are too lazy to fix intermittent cars.
YOu cant fix a car that works
    i know you did that
you sure has heck did not drive a dead car to a shop 8 times, did you or tow it 8 times mean.
that means its and Intermittent no crank
    https://www.jeepdied.com/no-crank.html

intermittent are a whole new ball of wax
    you fail to even state.

this implies you posted to wrong post as a hyjacker.

I have encountered this issue on the 07 dodge ram as well. Disconnecting/reconnecting the battery for a minute or so corrected the no start condition. Upon researching the problem, I have come to find out it lies within the WCM ( wireless control module ). The ignition key will sometimes send a static charge through to this module and cause it to go in " sleep " mode. Chrysler has an updated module to correct this issue. The replacement updated module for this Ram was in the 200 dollar range I believe. It may not be the correction for the Jeeps as I have never encountered this problem with one. However, it sounds exactly like the same problem and the year matches most vehicles. Possibly a bad batch of modules for that particular year range?

you matched up same issue for a 2010 post?
and think Jeeps are Dodges. wow....
how ?,the OP never stated what was bad.
    zero info. mostly..
    so cant match that either.

you forgot to scan it for sure, (big error that)!!!!!! on any car.. 2007
    and check the starter, relay.
or see scan codes for TRS failure.
TRS MUST signal park or neutral to crank
    on all cars made, a/t
did you even try cranking in netural
as the operator guide tells you?

The IMMO does not block cranking
only cut fuel and ASD drops and sets up to 8 Dtc ERROS JUST FOR THAT.
NOT SCANNING CAR, IS THE FAILURE HERE
    IN 99% OF CASES,
ANY OBD2 SCAN TOOL WORKS. CAN BUS RATED
    AS ALL ARE NOW.

    its not a dodge?
your car a dodge has a key line failure
one of many causes of no cranks.
jeeps dont work that way at all
    sorry.
    so post in dodge?

SOURCE: My 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My man I know your pain... I have the exact same problem happening to me now... same make, year and model... I called a mechanic buddy of mine and he said I might have a "flat point" on my starter and if so this might happen intermittently... he suggested a replacement of the starter... But I think the other suggestion is also quite valid so I going to have my friend do both...

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not start. Serpentine belt broke, so I replaced it, but now it will not start even with a jump. only clicks. Starter?

Maybe.
But what caused the belt to break ?
You might want to make sure the crank will turn and that the engine is not locked up.
If the crank turns, you would need to check for battery voltage at the starter.
