This video should solve it. If the window is not dropping enough see the video at about time 4:10 where a problem causing this can be seen followed by a solution. https://youtu.be/xLQOzLaq5mw

Just curious if you resolved the tailgate issue with your Freelander? I just discovered the same problem with my 2002 Freelander.

I think that you will need to remove the inside panel of the tailgate to find the exact problem. I would suggest that you take it to an auto glass proffesional (like The Glass Doctor) and have them look at it. They do this every day. If you are going to do the work yourself maybe one of the techs there will let you pick his brain a little.

The tailgate wont open on my 02 peugeot 307

It is controlled through an electronic relay mounted in tailgate handle. If it has some rust then it doesn't close the circuit to release the lock. just clean the relay switch and it'll work (but to unmount this handle you'll need to open the gate first and then you'll access the switch by removing the plastic trim from inside the tailgate or better let it done by a mechanic or car electrician).

91 4 runner tailgate, window wont open

No there is no bypass. The Motor in my tailgate crapped out on me last year partly to do with a rusted out tailgate that let water in! I replaced my tailgate, but in my research found that the only way to get the window down was to remove the inside panels on the tailgate, un screw the cover plate, and then unbolt the motor to allow the window to drop enough to open the tailgate. Once the tailgate is down it will be easier to see the internals and remove the motor. Hope this helps you

96 jeep Grand Cherokee tailgate will not open

This is kind of tricky. OK let's start, you have to crawl into the rear hatch area from the inside of the car. You'll have to pull the rear panel off the hatch, a screwdriver between the panel and hatch near the window will work. There might be 2 screws on the panel you could take out. The trick is to pull the panel far away enough to stick your arm down towards the latch and release it by hand. We did this at the dealer all the time.

The keyed lock on my 98 passport on the tail gate has been punched in, I can't figure out even how to get the tail gate open, because the handle on the out side seems to be un atatched, I feel that if I...

I believe you have to open the rear window to open the tailgate??
Tailgate opens right to left [ passenger to driver ] side?
Tailgate handle will not work if window not open - feels like it is disconnected. The "button" releases the window only.
If you open the rear window and the tailgate still will not open. You need to remove the inside tailgate cover to get access to the handle and release switch. You can access the the window release the same way [ just a little harder to do]. You will probably end up breaking the vinyl panel to do this but so will the auto body shop and they will charge you $$$$$ to replace it.
