Re: My digital clock/radio display is faded 2005 Pontiac...
The most common reason for this is because in side your radio there is tiny little light bulbs behind the main display that have blown..to repair this you need to remove the radio and replace the bulbs .hope this helps!

It appears to be that the radio clock display has malfunctioned, and is due for a replacement radio, which could be an aftermarket or oem radio, maybe found at a junk yard.
Tools required for oem replacement radio, torx keys set.
Before working on the radio or other electronics, disconnect the battery cables with 8mm wrench.
Replacing the oem radio is much easier, if you obtain oem radio, compared to aftermarket radio, due to being direct fit.
The radio is same for 1995 to 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and the Chevy Cavalier, regardless of sub models, such as SE,GT, VL,VLX,Z24. etc.
Parts needed for the the aftermarket radio install :Stereo assembly, stereo wiring harness adapter, radio antenna adapter, and dash install kit.wiring diagram for the wire colors / functions, along with tools, such as torx key set, screwdrivers, wire crimper, wire stripper, double ended wiring connectors, hair dryer.
The oem stereo removal video is for the 2000 to 2005 Sunfire / Cavalier, but are the same or very similar procedures.
The key has a chip in it.. :Possibly you key has lost its code.. try another key.. If that does not work check for fuel flow and spark at the plug wires/spark plugs.
the radio display is lighted by a tiny bulb inside the radio, to change this u must remove the radio from the dash and take off the top sheet metal cover, under that u will see a small twist in bulb socket, replace that little bulb, the bulb is about $2 and avail at any full sevice auto parts store.
on the bottom right there is the arrows that you use to adjust the bal and fade. with the power off hold one of the arrows down till you hear a beep and then use them to change the time
Press and hold the HR or MIN arrow for two seconds. Then press HR until the correct hour appears on the display. Press and hold MIN until the correct minute appears on the display. The time can be set with the ignition on or off.
