Remove the lower part of the dash. on the left hand side of the steering column is the ignition switch. it is usually white and about 4 inches long. it is slotted for adjustment. you may have to lower the column to gain access. make sure to remove string to park indicator so you don't break the string. its at the middle of the column.

I need to replace a power steering pump on a 1992 Olds Cutlass Ciera. How does one tackle that problem?

First you will need a pulley remover/installer. Remove the power steering belt, remove bolts holding the pump, remove p/s lines, replace in reverse order,and fill pump. Start car and move steering wheel back and forth slightly, then turn the wheel all the way stop to stop Always watch that there is plenty of fluid in the reservoir. Check with dip stick, should be full to bottom mark;

Ignition switch won't shut off on my 92 olds cutlass

Your 1992 Cutlass was the last model year not to require the drivers side air bag...You can access the ignition switch (needs replaced) by removing the steering wheel...you will need a puller to do this...as this is more than you want to do...many local locksmith shops offer this service...much less costly than a dealership...plenty of parts for your pristine Olds Cutlass are available...:) Hope this helps...

1992 Olds cutlass ciera s V6 3.3 won't start. Starter and battery working properly and tried to putting car in neutral and nothing happens. any ideas to try next?

You need to test your mechanical ignition switch located on top of the steering column by your feet. Remove bottom panel below steering column then 2 or 4 nuts holding column to dash. Lower steering column - the rectangular component with the metal rod going in the back side ( goes toward the steering wheel ) is the mechanical ignition switch. Disconnect and inspect harness for corrosion and dirty contacts.If the contacts are clean ( not green, white, or burnt) then look closely at the mounting screws to see if there are marks from where they were originally mounted - it is possible the switch moved away from the steering wheel which would keep that metal bar from activating the start circuit. If the switch moved, loosen mount screws and move switch back to original spot. If the switch didn't move then you can try starting the car with the key and moving that metal arm manually, pushing it toward the engine to activate start circuit. The switch MUST be mounted to the steering column for the circuit to be open ( complete) as the ground is supplied through the mount screws. If this still doesn't work then replace the switch.
Good luck!!

How do I drop the steering column to replace the ignition switch on top of it?

Take the plastic from the dash underneath steering colum , There will be metal bracket with 2 nuts you need to take off. This will allow the steering colum to drop down enough for you to get to switch . It still kinda hard to get to but doable .

Guide me step-by-step in changing a ignition cylinder key lock on a 1992 cutlass ciera

straighten a paper clip. On the face of the plate thathe key is inserted, there is a hole about 1/16th Yurn the key back into the accessory position. Put the paper clip into the hole and push , then use the kkey as a handle ,rotate it as you pull out on it. Rotate as if to start.. The tumbler will come out with the key. Now, why do you wamt to pull it out? If it is an electrical problem, there are no electrics at the key location. The actual ignition switch is mounted on the lower enfd of the steering colunm on top of the tube and is actuated by a rod from the key mechanism. Good Luck

1992 olds cutlass ciera keeps stalling out is there a main relay switch or ignition module switch that can be replaced? Where is it?Anyother ideas what could cause it to start, drive a few blocks, then...

could be a crankshaft position sensor located on the back side of the engine. There is a two wire plug on it and should be close to the freeze-out plugs. you will need an 8mm wrench to remove it.
