SOURCE: Ignition key rotates without catching

Yeah, def sounds like a lock cyl problem. On many cars, you rotate the key to the 'On' position, and there is a certain pin that you can press in with an awl or small screwdriver, and it allows the lock cylinder to be pulled out. This is typical of GM vehicles, Volvo may be similar. The pin might be somewhere behind that plastic plug you were talking about. Good Luck!

SOURCE: I HAVE A MERCEDEZ 190 AND THE KEYS ARE NOT TURNING

it is better to buy a new ignition barrel.it takes a special socket to get the screws out, once the screws are out they do not need to be replaced.buy new barrel, disconnect negative battery cable, disconnect wires from barrel assembly, remove barrel from colum. first take vin# to dealership parts department to get correct barrel assembly, the keys with new assembly will fit doors and trunk

The sensor is not in your key. It is in the Key Fob, unless your car is not equipped with keyless entry. If there is no key fob than your car is not equipped with vehicle immobilization.

hi. its very unlikely that you will ever remove the broken key from the barrel. your best bet is to replace the barrel complete with key. from a breakers yard.

Wrong key broke off in ignition of a 2004 focus how do i removed this piece

Might have to have the barrel drilled out and replaced, I have removed broken keys with very fine crochet needles and a lot of patience. To take a barrel out without damage the key needs to be turned into the first position to depress the barrel lock pin, which you can't do with the broken key in. Good luck

Key broke in barrel needs barrel out with the broken key 2004 freelander

remove the cover round your ignition you need a torch to see a slot in your lock push a small flat head screwdriver in the slot but you need to be able to then lift out the cylinder. you would normally do that with your key in the barrel.

A key broke off in the ignition. i need to know how to remove the ignition switch cylinder

Hi Once the cowling around the ignition is removed, turn ignition switch to the first position (because the key is in the switch you should be able to rotate to the first position)
On the top side of the ignition barrel there is a spring loaded pin ( this pin is difficult to see and get at)
When you have located this pin press it in ( use the cranked end of an alen key )
While its pressed in pull out the ignition barrel with the broken key in it
when you have the barrel in your hand you will be able to get broken key out.
All the best with this problem

The key has broken in the ignition and the lower section of key is stuck in the barrel. The car still starts and runs . How do i remove the broken section of key from the ignition barrel, I have removed...

on the left side of barrel, look for a dowel, there should be a vary small opening that you can take something as small as a pinhead and push the dowel in ,while pushing in on dowel pull the barrel out.the key may need to also be in on position for removal. try that and see if it works. if not please repost your question. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Want to remove the ignition lock cylinder since a broken key is stuck inside.

get a phillipshead un do about 4 screws from underneath plastic cover which hides steering colume. remove cover you will see white plug on the left hand side of ignition barrel disconect.then right hand side there will be acable disconect.now get a small chissel and anti clockwise tap bolts which have no heads on them that are on top of steering colume when they are alittle bit lose use plyers its easier pull bolts out clamp will then come of and then you can pull whole ignition of. now there is 2 brass pins which hold barrel in ignition up near the key end remove and barrel will come out but it might be easier to take whole ignition to locksmith and get them to do it and get new key for around 30 bucks i did a mates about couple months ago seeya orangepeel.

What is proper way to remove and replace ignition barrel?

You will have to take apart the steering column, breaking it down to the switch in order to get it out. I hope you have a lot of patience.
