2002 grand am....car starts then quits.....security light is on and service engine light also. I tried leaving the ignition switch on to reprogram the passlock, the security light stills stays on. The car has a remote start also, could this be the problem?

Is your starter trying to start the engine? If so, there is a chance that the fuel pump stopped working. If the starter isn't trying to engage, then most likely your security system thinks that your key isn't the right one for your ignition switch. The solution for that would be to have your ignition switch replaced and reprogrammed (dealer item). I could go on and on, but without any more details it is hard to determine the root of your problem.
Quit messing around with a failed system. Just bypass it. Its cheaper too. And you never have to worry about it again. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
SWITCH IGNITION ON WITH MASTER KEY TO BE PROGRAMMED.TURN ON IGNITION KEY TO ON POSITION.SYSTEM LED SECURITY LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.LEAVE IGNITION KEY ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL SECURITY THEFT LIGHT DISAPPEAR.THEN SWITCH OFF IGNITION SWITCH WAIT 5 SECONDS, THEN START THE ENGINE,THIS WILL HELP YOU FOR A WHILE BUT YOU NEED TO GET THE THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM SCANNED CHECK OUT AT THE GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP.
turn ignition switch to the on position engine off for 10 minutes until security light or led light extinguish.then turn off ignition switch wait 5 seconds then start the engine.if this procedure dont work.the dealership has to reprogram it.
YOU CAN TURN OFF SECURITY LIGHT BY PUTTING KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH.TURN IGNITION TO ON POSITION,WITH ENGINE OFF.LEAVE KEY IN THE SWITCH IN ON POSITION FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL SECURITY LIGHT TURN OFF.IF IT DOES.TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH.WAIT 5 SECONDS THEN TRY CRANKING CAR.IF THIS DONT WORK TRY ANOTHER KEY DO THE 10 MINUTES SWITCH TRICK.IF STILL THE SECURITY LIGHT DONT TURN OFF YOUR THEFT SECURITY SYSTEM IN FAULT THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO FIX AND REPROGRAM NEW KEY IN SWITCH OR BCM CONTROL MODULE..
TRY THIS PROCEDURE WITH IGNITION ON WITH KEY IN SWITCH.LEAVE SWITCH ON POSITION WITH ENGINE OFF. FOR TEN MINUTES WATCH THE SECURITY LIGHT IF IT TURNS OFF IN TEN MINUTES.TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH FOR 5 SECONDS THEN TRY STARTING DO THIS PROCEDURE TWICE.IF CAR DONT CRANK THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO REPROGRAM NEW KEY AND IGNITION SWITCH.
I have ran into this problem with a 01 grand am that has the same key switch as the alero. It turns ,but no response, all lights on dash worked just no starter.I had to reprogram it to work by leaving the key in the on position (before start)for ten minutes so the ecm can reprogram the switch.Hope this helps.
