I have a 92 isuzu trooper. we replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, sock to fuel pump, plugs and reset timming. drove fine but then started running rough, ideling rough and lost power to engine. it will start, idel fine but when go to drive you can only go about 5 miles per hr. anyone got any ideas
Check make sure all plugs are firing. Sounds like what my 93 Rodeo was doing-Idled okay but very rough when in gear. Turns out only 5 out of 6 plugs were firing due to a defective ignition module- 100 bucks later it works fine.
Hope this helps.
Because the ignition module is about $100, (and because electrical/electronic components are usually NON-RETURNABLE), make sure all the less expensive parts are performing as they should FIRST. I would do them in this order (I have ordered them by expense):
1-spark plugs-make sure they aren't fouled, no gas residue on plug tips, gapped properly, produce a bright blue spark, etc.-get a complete new set, they're cheap (All okay here? go to wires)
2-plug wires-no cracked or frayed wires, routed properly/not grounding, etc. (all okay here? check coil packs)
3-coil packs-make sure they fire like they should-bright blue spark-(just like spark plugs) (all okay here? check for fuel delivery problems)
4-make sure fuel is delivered to injectors properly-press schroeder release valve BRIEFLY on fuel rail, it should spurt out!
What I determined was that because my number 5 cyl had a weak spark, I traced back, checked plug, (you can switch with a known good one to rule this out) plug okay, wire, (again switch with good one) wire okay, coil pack, (switched coil packs)- had to be ignition module. Unfortunately, you have to do it this way, because there is no way other way (I know of) to determine if the ignition module IS defective.
Hope this helps.
