My pt cruiser 2001 is using 1 qt of oil every 250 miles????? we just bought it.

All engines burn oil. Yours burns 1/2-qt every 3,000 miles. That's NOT excessive

You should replace the oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Unless you are using synthetic oil. With synthetic you can go to 10,000 miles. But I change mine at 7,500.

if the car needed a quart of oil i would suggest you check it every month/500 miles,or you may find the next time you may need a new engine.....Chrysler,in Europe,are serviced every 10k/annually.i am not sure re USA.

I hope your friend put some gas stabilizer in the tank before he store the car.

I will put one bottle of ISO-HEET (red bottle) to the fuel tank + fill-up and let it run down to 1/3 tank.

Fuel up with a full tank Chevron gas for one more pass.

You should get 21 city / 26 highway on the PT 2.4 Liter engine.

take 2 miles off if it's an automatic.

See if you can pull the timing cover back and see if the timing belt is broken. If it is it's a pain to change

need to have computer scanned to see what the cause of the light is.then you can properly address the problem.

this might be a sign of a weak oil pump

I have run with my PT 290,000 km until now and oil consumption is about 1 litre/12,000 km.

Car overheats then engine dies going down hill coasting. When try to start, starter spins as if no gas or fire to the plugs. Can this be a sensor flipped by too much heat or lack of coolant ? If so, how do you reset the sensor ?
