Let's see if there is really a diagnostic expert out there for this... 1996 Plymouth Voyager 3.3L engine with 165,000 miles. I'm having intermittent starting problems. I can drive for weeks and no problems. But when I get the problem, it happens often.. Then all of a sudden, I don't encounter it again for a 3-4 weeks. Here are symptoms: When I turn the key to the Start position, I hear buzzing from driver's area under steering column. Even when I take the key out of the ignition, the buzzing often continues for 15-30 seconds. While buzzing and key in Off position , I try to start with my after-market remote starter. Then I get buzzing and rapid clicking sound. I can also hear the clicking noise from the radio speakers when radio is on (not the buzzing; just when I use the remote starter at the same time as the buzzing). Often I turn the key and nothing happens. Try it a few times, then the buzzing starts. After a few tries of key on - key off - key on sequence, the van starts. Sometimes when I try to remote start the van from outside the vehicle, the outside lights flash indicating it received the signal, but it does not start. I press the remote button again and it starts. Occasionally, but not often, I notice that when it takes four or five items to turn key and get it to start, my clock re-sets to 12:00. This does not happen when I try to re-start and it starts within 2 tries. During this instance, when I turn the key to ignition, but not all the way to start nothing displays on the dash and radio doesn't work. When I turn the key back to Accessories, nothing works. I try a few times to start the van and it does with no problem. Other things going on: I can be driving for an extended period and the LED lights for both the odometer and gear displays flicker very fast. Most times, the ABS warning light goes on at the same time (steady ABS light, no flickering), The ABS light does not always come on when the displays are flickering. I pull over, stop the car and re-start. The problem goes away. Although sometimes when I try to re-start, I get the buzzing and no-start problem described above. If it matters, about 3-4 months before my first encounter with the starting problem, my remote starter no longer unlocks any doors but the driver's door (but it will lock all the doors). And about six months before I had any starting or the remote door opening problem, the ABS warning light sometimes would not turn off after starting. Turning off the van and re-starting cleared the problem. Other facts: Fuel pump was replaced 6,000 mile ago. One month later, engine would not start -- no cranking, no clicking, nothing -- just wouldn't do anything. After the repair shop did a lot of electrical testing, the ignition switch was replaced. Prior to these repairs, I did have intermittent problems starting the van -- but no buzzing or clicking (and no flickering LED lights). The buzzing/flickering started about 4 months after these repairs.

The way to approach this sreies of issues is to first remove the remote start/alarm from the equation and restore the vans electrical system back to original. From there, if it persists, we can do more trouble shooting. Let me know and I can walk you through the process. This is definately a problem that does require a diagnostician. Thank you for the level of detail you provided!

Transmission not shifting from 1st. gear on a 1996 plymouth voyager

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drivetrain are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s)

Need wireing digran for 1996 Plymouth Voyager SE 6 Cyl 3.3L Question ! when replacing Engine Control Module 1996 Plymouth Voyager dies the computer need to re set by auto shop personal? Replaced...

When the ECM is replaced you need to have it reprogrammed. It may run the engine for a bit but there are t many variables to keep it going. Some auto parts stores are doing this now. call around. Much cheaper than a dealer. If you had it reprogrammed then you need to check the codes. This will give a direction to go.

How to change the rear spark plugs of a 96 plymouth voyager

The engine plenum will have to be removed. This is what the air goes thru to get to the engine intake. Remove ground, mark tag remove required cable, wires and hoses, take digital photos as you go. Be patient. The good news is we don't have to change them every 20K miles.

How do you set the timing on a Plymouth Voyager ? I have to repace a broken timing belt. I was also told to replace the water pump is that true.

It is recommended because if you have to change the water pump belt change since you have to remove it and you save work in the future as we recommend changing the camshaft seals and crankshaft as it saves time and money

1996 plymouth voyager timing belt broke

They are an interference engine, but you may have dodged a bullet. Once new belt is on, you may want to check, before going too much further.

1996 plymouth voyager mini van engine stays on, 500.00 complete tune has been done engine light went off but came back on less then a mile from Pep Boys.

A tune up in most cases has nothinf to do with a check engine light, unless the engine is missing, go to Autozone or Kragen auto and ask to have the OBD system checked for trouble codes, then post them here and we will look at them, the test by the way is free.
