Carbon buildup in the throtle body is most likely the problem you need to remove the air cleaner and buy some card cleaner. there ia a butterfly valve in the throat of the assembly that will have a carbon ring built up around it use the carb cleaner and a tooth brush to remove it this happened to my pacifica I could not believe it was something so simple I went through lubricating all the cables before I found the real problem

Testimonial: "I replaced the air filter and cleaned the butterfly valve and seat.It seems to be working just fine.Time will tell if the fix is permanent.THANKS!!!!"

Kick the side of the accelerator

Testimonial: ""Ingenious suggestion". I was using the bottom of my foot. The side kick seems to have eliminated the problem if only temporarily. Time will tell."

2005 Pacifica Accelerator Sticks

Have the same vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Also have the same problem w/ the sticking accelerator. I dope it up real good w/ WD-40 and axle grease. It works for a few days, then goes back to sticking. Drove over my $250 chainsaw the other day, wiping out the cutting bar on the saw. When the boys in DC get off Toyota's case I hope they open an investigation on this defect.

Accelerator pedal sticking - 2005 Pacifica

Buy throttle body cleaner at your local parts store. Take the big intake hose off that is connected to the throttle body and air filter housing. Open up the butterfly (like you're controling the throttle at the engine). Spray this cleaner inside the throttle body, around the butterfly, where it motions back and forward on the pin. You will see a lot of carbon build up run out. Do this 2-3 times. It doesn't take a lot to clean it, just a couple of quick sprays. Wipe it clean with a clean cloth or rag. Put it all back together. It will seem hard to start for a few turn overs, but this is from the cleaner and it will dry out quick. What happens is, over time this carbon builds up where the butterfly closes and it gets (stuck) on this build up, which causes you to push harder on the gas pedal or it will not close completely. They charge will charge you like $250+ to do this and usually it's just build -up. Try it and let us know how it works for you. The cleaner $5

Accelerator sticks

Take off the throttle body (very easy to do) and use carb cleaner to clean off the gunk. You have to clean both sides of the butterfly.
