1986 mighty max 2.0 engine makes ticking noise most of the time..

Hmmm valves ? oil pump not working ? wouldn't hurt to change that.. I just bought the truck. It has a new water pump and alternator, didn't have an air filter in it ! i got one for it today, changed the oil and filter, i put 10w30 in it, it had a few metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug, hmmm... isn't this an alumunim block ? would lower viscosity oil help ? i am a student, taking automotive technology class. going for an associate degree... only 3 months into it... but havn't got that far yet..lol. when i get to engine repair and rebuild class maybe i can rebuild it.... but for now i just need the truck to get me back and forth to school. i had a suburu wagon that made the same ticking noise at one time.... but sold it when the water pump blew.. my ford f-250 makes that noise when it first starts to, then it goes away.... thanks for the help.. i will try to replace the oil pump soon... if i can find it.. lol

Sounds like maybe it is what it is. I know alot of OHC engines that do this and there is nothing wrong with them just the lobes slapping the valves. Now for the metal shavings.. its never a good sign but keep the oil changed and check ever 3000 or less miles to see how its doing

Aluminum Head, Casted Steal blocks, Also a Casted **** steal exhaust manifold which always crack in the inside on the collector.
I own the same truck and with many miles on the bottom end I also have a ticking at the top. I figured that my wrist pins were about to shatter because I am getting some piston slap in the cylinders, but I have no oil burn or drip. The head on mine is a special requested order with no jet valves and all the rockers are adjustable.
If your ticking is loud and irritating for you, it could be a timing belt issue also, but if it breaks don't worry. The trucks have floating valves and will not come in contact with the pistons if it snaps.
I use Castrol oil always. It keeps the interior engine parts cleaner. Many oils will turn all them parts black and just causes a mess when ya have to work on them. Depending on your weather...in my area I use 10-40.
DO NOT ever overheat these trucks too. If you do, even one time...you will crack the heads everytime. I have replaced mine 3 times after the truck got mechanical break downs of the cooling system.
There is also a recall on the seatbelts, the plastic in the receiver end of the buckle gets broken and starts to not lock or will release in an accident.

Hi i have a 1991 Mitsubishi mighty max 3.0L 4WD. I just got it running today. Its making a ticking noise when idling. I think it was doing this before but im not shure. I dont want to damage anything. I...

well the lifter is a problem, your better safe than sorry cause if you don't tear it back apart and check the lifters then all that work you did is gonna be history.and you will be doing it again, i'm sure you know this. do this before you try to solve the ticking.

1986 mighty max 2.0 engine makes a ticking noise most of the time. At higher rpms it stops. What could it be ? It kind of sounds ike a vaccum leak ? maybe ?

A ticking sound is usually a valve and if it stops at higher rpms I would guess it is oil related. Seems like the oil pump might be getting tired and not pumping enough at low rpms.

My blazer is making a ticking noise. I have changed the belt, pulley, and recently the water pump. It now only makes the noise when I give it gas. What could be the problem?

can be anything if coming from upper engine possible problem in head[s] valve tick if truck overheated and oil wasnt changed also may have sludge in engine causing limited oiling of valves, lifters rockers or a valve needs adjusting rocker loose can also be from the parts u replaced need to listen to where noise is coming from

It make a ticking noise like an exhaust leak. the gasket is good any other suggestions

THERE'S AN EGR VALVE IN THE EXHAUST, BUT THAT WOULDN'T TICK. TRY ADDING ONE OF THOSE LIFTER QUIET CHEMICALS U CAN AT THE AUTO STORE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. IF THAT HELPS, THEN U KNOW IT'S THE LIFTERS. U CAN STILL DRIVE WITH THE TICKING LIFTERS FOR AWHILE, BUT SOONER OR LATER THEY NEED TO BE CHANGED. ALSO, INFREQUENT OIL CHANGES CAN CAUSE A TICKING LIFTER.

1994 mitsubishi mighty max valve tapping noise(occationally) when warm or cold. i took the valve cover off to try to adjust the rocker arms but it is non adjustable, what could it be? Bad oil pump?

How many miles?
Could be a bent pushrod.
Could be just a high mile engine that needs overhauld.
Could be you engine needs higher octane fuel...as engines get older and worn they will benifit from higher octane.

Ticking, sounds like lifters.

with engine running try using long screwdriver on valve cover & listen through handle to help pinpoint noise

Ticking noise from engine

You might have a bad hydraulic valve lifter (assuming this engine has them)... you could try an aftermarket product designed to unstick valve lifters.... any auto parts store carries them.
