Big job! Truth be told not something you want to do in the backyard. First off an engine support must be installed on top of the engine to support the back of the engine. After getting the car up in the air and the wheels removed you need to remove or swing out the cradle under the car that supports the engine and trans. Before doing this you will need to disconnect all componants attached to it, also at this time the left axle needs to be popped out of the trans. Now disconnect the torque converter bolts behind the dust cover. Unbolt any remaining componants attached to the trans. Pop out the right axle. Unbolt the trans from the engine with a proper support fixture under it. In most cases you will have to lower the engine to get the trans to clear the left fender wall. Look this is a really big job and if the proper supports are not used it can be even be dangerous. I would expect it to cost between 500 and 900 to have this swapped out at a repair shop (about 8 hours). But it probably would be money well spent. Here is another thought... many junk yards will also do a swap at more reasonable prices, just something to think about! Good luck!

Put it on a lift, support the engine from up top or under it, if you don't plan on using the lift for another job. Pull the axles. Then drop one side of the engine/suspension cradle, then the trans.

Can a 2006 saturn VUE 4cyl, 2.2l front wheel drive be flat towed?

if it is an automatic transmission it will need to towed with the front wheels off the ground
Short distance towing with any automatic transmission is ok but it has to be remembered that the gears/bearings will be without lubricating oil
the user manual for all automatic cars states to remove the drive shaft before towing and as that is impracticable with a front wheel drive car , best to tow with the wheels of the ground
consider putting it on a car trailer behind you MH as an alternative operation

Can you slide the transmissin away and replace seal

It would be nice to know what year & model.
But still not likely.
To replace the front seal If it is an AUTOMATIC, you must remove a lot of parts.
For front wheel drive the first thing are the wheels. Then drop the lower ball joints, break loose the struts from the tie-rods. In some cases lower control arms, sway bars, stabilizers, exhaust systems
The drive shaft(rear wheel drive) or drive-axles (front wheel drive),
transmission mount
cross-member (rear wheel)
shift rods or cable
hydraulic lines (if automatic)
inspection/access cover at bottom-rear of engine, electrical sensors(if applicable). Then the Bell housing bolts as well as torque converter bolts.
And THEN, because the torque converter holds the majority of your transmission fluid the transmission must be removed with the torque converter attached.Moved far enough away that the converter can be removed safely without spilling the fluid everywhere and where the removal & replacement of the seal can take place where as not to damage it during installation.
Some seals if aren't put it perfectly straight will kink the rubber and jeopardize the whole job.
And the worst thing that can happen after that big job is to have a leak. It must be done right without taking short cuts.
Its a $10.00 part but $300 -$1000 OR MORE to put it in.

Your Problem: hi, have a error code 45 ,automatic trans axle malfunctioning,I just pay $1000 for transmission fix, the guy said that code has nothing to do w/ transmission work. tx. jairo.

A transaxle, in the automotive field, is a major mechanical component which combines the functionality of the transmission, the differential and associated components of the driven axle into one integrated assembly. Transaxles are near universal in all automobile configurations that have the engine placed at the same end of the car as the driven wheels: the front-engine, front-wheel drive layout, rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout arrangements.
