2000 grand prix, 3800 when it warms up losses power

I have a 2000 grand prix gt with the 3800 motor, the car has been layed up for 2 years. checked all the fluids and my find was very dirty(rusty water it looked like)in the rad, started the car up and purred like a kitten, the temp setting was just starting to come up to warm so i jumped in the car and went for a drive in a big parking lot across the street, car stilled worked fine, after a short drive to the gas station to put some new fuel in it because it was really low(had some sort of gas treatment in the tank)fired the car back up and left the gas station and car started loosing its power(about 300 ft away from the gas station), temp light came on as well. drove it straight home. car was idling very ruff. shut the car off. waited for about 2 to 3 minutes car started up fine and idled very ruff again. next day car starts fine runs for a little bit then idles and runs ruff, also if your driving it if you floor the gas pedal the revs go way down, and if you let the pedal come half way up, the revs will pick up(not very fast but it works) there is no engine light on, the only light that comes on is the temp light when it goes up to almost 1/4.

I would start with a gas filter I'd say its restricted. The gas treatment probably caused the filter to clog and gel.

I would have to say the fuel/water separator filter is clogged up. The filter will remove water and crud from the gas. It looks more like a small can under the car. If the car set up with a low tank of gas, water will condensate inside and once the new fuel sloshes around it gets all this junk off the walls of the tank and that gets sucked in the filter. Try and replace that first..

Motor dies while running

sounds to me that you may have a plugged catalytic converter. try disconnecting the converter and running the engine, also you can check for restricted exhaust coming out tail pipe.

02 Grand Prix GT 3800 starts and stalls immediately (especially when warm). Will start up again and run fine, though it may have to be cranked a bit to get started the second time. I cleaned the MAF sensor...

Id say maf again, due to the previous instance, however on a 3.8 i wouldnt be above checking the fuel pressure regulator for seeping through the vacuum hole. The boss has a 00 impala with a 3800 and my wife does both with 230k roughly on each, seen quite a few of those regulators and maf's over that time.

What kind of motor does a Pontiac Grand Prix have?

Depends on what sub-model you have. If you have an SE its a 3100 3.1L Engine. If its a GT its a 3800 3.8L Engine. If its a GTP its a 3800 3.8L but with a supercharger.

I need instructions on how to change a crankshaft position sensor on a 2000 pontiac grand prix gt it has a 3800 series 2 motor in it

It's behind the harmonnic balance. You WILL need a special puller set for this job. A normal blancer puller will NOT work. Once you get the balance off it is bolted to the engine. I'm not sure where one would find the puller set from besides a tool guy. Some of the auto parts stores have special tools they will loan out. May want to try them. I would imagine that if you need to purchace the tool then it may be cheaper to pay someone to do it. I know they are expecive through the big tool companies. Hope that helps.
