1. Remove the Center Bolt and Washer.
2. Use a correct size Puller - available at most auto parts stores (some even rent them "for free" (with deposit); also available in sets at Harbor Freight.
3. DO NOT USE the outside Crankshaft Pulley lip- the Puller will snap the edge off!
4. Use a smaller sized Bolt inserted where the Crankshaft Bolt was, and use a set of washers small enough to fit on the bolt, but small enough to allow the Crankshaft Pulley to be "pulled" off the Crankshaft. The Puller Pivot Leg will be place againsgt this bolt.

I had trouble removing the crankshaft pulley bolt: I placed a 1/2" drive ratchet inside a 3-foot-long steel channel (also called "unistrut") and put it on the bolt with the steel channel against the pavement. Then, I put the key in the ignition and quickly bumped the starter. The noise was loud, but the bolt was loose!!

You are correct, this key does drive both. While I have never tried to remove the keway with out both pulley and lower sprocket you may be able to (my gut says no but anything is worth trying once) I'd position the keyway at the 12 o'clock postion and with a good pair of needle nose pliers see if the key will roll out as you pull up and away with it. If it will not you'll of course have to remove the front of the engine and pull the timing belt, if over 60K miles on belt go ahead and replace with new.
I hope this may have assited and good luck!

use a three arm puller to remove this , useing a prybar on the flywheel will cause teeth damage and make for more repairs .

There on very tight, did you insert a bolt in the hole, where the bolt for the crank bolt goes on, insert a long where it sticks out pass the pulley about 3 to 4 inches, but thinner bolt in there, and the tip of the puller on it, tighten the puller, and it will come out. I would get two of those bolt's, because it will start to bent, and you might need to used the other bolt to finsh taking it out.
