Car lost power and started putting out black

2005 Jaguar X Type 2.0 D (Ford engine)

Car lost power suddenly and started putting out black smoke. Local garage checked over and cleaned the EGR valve which was carboned up. Started engine but no better. Very rough tickover, no power when accelerating. No engine management lights on to indicate problem but fuel to engine seems to be the problem. Help !!

The rubber pipe feeding air from the intercooler to the bottom of the EGR valve is probably split - this was the problem on mine - exact same symptoms!

2005 (Dec) Jaguar X-Type 2.0 Diesel. It starts with rough idle 500-600 rpm for 2-3 seconds. and after jumps to 850 - 900 rpm and then drives perfectly.

Question edited for clarity and translated into written English.
Question moved from Ford to Jaguar category.

You should always take the upgrades. They are fixes to known issues.

All Diesel engines are slow to start as they need pressure and heat which happens after a few revolutions of the engine.

Rough Idle is normally because the Throttle Body and MAF need cleaning.

I think my egr valve on my 2005 2ltr Jaguar Xtype needs cleaning, how can I do this. I had it done about four years ago when the car lost power and back smoke was coming from exhaust. the car has started...

what you need is carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner then unbolt it from your engine, unplug everything hooked up.to it then place a shop towel over the opening left on your engine for nothing falls in then take your EGR valve and place it on newspapers, or towels and spray the heck out of it, let it sit after spraying it, and repeat after you got it cleaned up, let it air out for a bit, and bolt and hook it back up, this is just a temporary fix it sounds like you are running rich if you have a scan tool, check your fuel trims they just might be off a little bit, if it took.about 4 years to.start smoking again, but if you are going to be keeping it for some time, then I would check the fuel trims or have them checked.and fix, it.could be.something as easy as a vacuum leak

Jaguar x type...started the car 2day when i put my foot on the accelerator there was no speed...i can put my foot all the way down and no speed its got no acceleration...its driving but slow...

if there is also black smoke coming out the exhaust - and the problem is intermittent - then it's the EGR valve - it sticks open - will need replacing.... Happened to mine this morning and this is what the Jaguar Assistance guy said. Mine is a 2006 2 litre X-type.

BLACK SMOKE ON ACCELARATION DIESEL JAG ENGINE

Diesel engines always put out black smoke, so it is probably normal.

Lack of power, exhaust smoke and engine miss firing, EGR Valve has been removed and cleaned, new EGR Valve was fitted, made no difference, old EGR Valve refitted, car runs with no exhaust smoke and no miss...

Just an idea but the Ford Mondeo ( european car ) from which I believe your engine
is taken has a habit of splitting a low pressure tube at the back
of the engine this is a relatively
cheap, easy fix. The other symptom this used to throw up was a
little more black smoke from the exhaust and a pacing/ surging from
the engine.
