The cabin air filter is actually pretty easy to change. Here are the steps:

  1. Set the air conditioning system to Recirculation. The case for the cabin air cannot be removed with the system in the Outside Air mode.
  2. Turn the engine off.
  3. Open the Glove Compartment
  4. unclip the damper rod on the ride side of the glove compartment. To unclip it usually it is just a squeeze tab but sometimes it is a phillips head screwdriver.
  5. The glove compartment now must be squeezed together at the rear to allow the tabs to be released. Just let the glove compartment hang down.
  6. Through the glove compartment opening, locate the filter cover and remove.
  7. Remove dirty filter and replace with the new and reverse steps 1-5 to put it back together.
Shouldnt take to long usually takes me about 5 minutes to change it.

Cabin filter

1 Tools needed are a Phillips screwdriver and a socket wrench. Open door to passenger side of vehicle. 2 Under the glove compartment is a kick plate cover held in place by four screws. Remove the screws and take off cover. 3 The door to the cabin filter is now visible. Remove screw in door and unhinge. 4 Remove the first filter by pulling straight down. Remove the second filter by sliding forward and pulling down. Replace with clean cabin filters. Reattach door and kick plate cover.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Already have cabin filter, need to know how to install it.

Remove all of the contents in the glove box. Remove the glove box door support. Open the glove box. Squeeze the sides of the glove box inward, to drop the box door open further. The cabin air filter is in a small rectangular box, behind the glove box.

Installation of 2004 Toyota Avalon cabin filter

I will be happy to provide you with the instructions.

Open the glove box.

Remove all of the contents.

Observe the right side of the glove box door, you will see a black plastic thing/arm that is connected to a cylindrical device; Remove the arm from the glove box door.

After the arm is disengaged from the glove box door. squeeze the sides of the glove box towards the middle, to defeat the 2 stops that prevent the glove box from falling completely open.

Whilst squeezing the sides of the box inward, lower the glove box door down.

With a flashlight, look into the area behind the glove box. You will see a long rectangular device, this is the door/tray for the cabin air filter. Pull it out, towards you. Once it is out, you will be able to extract the dirty filter, and replace it with a new one.

This entire procedure should take you about 3 minutes. Very easy.

Thanks for choosing FIxYa for assistance. A FIxYa rating (4 blue diamonds) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Cabin Air Filter

Open the glove box

Remove all of the contents in the glove box

On the right side, dis-engage the rod going to the split plastic pin on the glove box door

Squeeze both other sides of the glove box to defeat the stops that keeps the glove box from falling open

Observe the box in the area vacated by letting the glove box drop down, this is the heater box

Locate a rectangular cover (approx 7 " x 2"), it is located on the face of the box; facing you.

Pull this cover out towards you, the cabin air filter is located in the tray that is connected to this rectangular cover.

This should help you replace it.

Levelling Driver's Door and replacing air conditioner filter behind glove compartment

Regarding the door, you are prob going to need a body repair shop to do it properly.

The cabin ir filter is located behind the glovebox. Open the glovebox, remove all of your personal stuff. Disconnnect the shock absorber-looking thingy at the right side. Press IN on both sides of the glovebox "box", to defeat the 2 travel limiting pins on either side. The cabin air filter is located in a black or white rectangular looking door, pull it out and extract the filter.
