Hi from uk to retime cambelt is as follows = the crank cog has a mark which lines up with corresponding mark on front of engine block mark is approx 12-30 o/clock this is TDC No 1 the the cam cog has a small drilled hole in one of the webs just below the cog teeth ? this hole has to be at 12-o/clock position and then using a small mirror if you look through this hole you will see a vertical notch on the front of block this is theTDC mark for cam you then fit belt anticlockwise from c/shaft to cam then round tensioner then release tensionor to tension belt and then lock it up torque both bolts 20 - 27Nm rotate engine manually 4 complete turns clockwise then recheck marks ok /re align ? then re assemble crank pully bolt torque is 140 -150 Nm may i just inform you? that your engine is what is known as interferance that is to say in event of c/belt failure there is more than likely valves to piston contact however this can also occure too if miss timed belt fitted and engine has tried to start ? a compression test on cylinders will confirm if this has happened or not ? hope this helps

My drive belt broke off, nothing was damaged, I made it home before it over heated, I was looking for a diagram on how to replace it, It's a 2002 Hyundai accent. Hope you can help, Thank...

There should be a belt routing diagram somewhere in your engine bay, or under the hood. Your belt tensioner is the manual type, it's not spring loaded. Good luck, i hope this helps.

Will a alternator from a 1999 accent fit a 2002 accent

Yes, it will. Here is a picture of the alternator that fits from 1999 to 2002: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ALTERNATOR-HYUNDAI-ACCENT-ELANTRA-2000-2001-2002-90-AMP-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQfitsZYearQ3a1999Q7cMakeQ3aHyundaiQ7cModelQ3aAccentQQhashZitem1e6181bed1QQitemZ130484911825QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#vi-ilComp As long as the connections and mounts are the same, it should work. If the pulley is different, you can swap your pulley. Make sure the belt lines up with the other pulleys.

I need to see a diagram of how to change a alternator belt in a 2003 accent hyundai

Do you have a digital camera? Take pictures of your engine bay, especially the belt routing and save them to your computer for later viewing.
Next push down on your belt with enough pressure to see which pulley arm moves. This is your tensioner,if you put a box end wrench on the bolt of that pulley you can push down on it and release the tension on the belt for removal.
Then look at your pictures as to how the belt was originally installed. You'll need to move that tensioner enough to replace the belt. After replacing the belt make sure it's on 100% before starting the engine.

Was driving Hyundai Accent 2002. Suddenly the power steering stopped working, the emergency brake light and battery light came on. Car will now not turn over. Under the hood, some belts seem to be missing....

Your belt broke, either something is wrong with a pulley and caused the belt to brake or the belt was just old and broke on its own. Either way needs a belt put back on then see if anything else is wrong

How do I change an alternator belt on a '99 hyundai accent?

Call your local National Guard Armory, Fire Station, State College auto program or High School Auto Shop and ask if they have somebody that would come put it on for you. Ask you pastor who the "auto guy" in the church is, if you don't have a church call the biggest church closest to you and ask the receptionist if they have an "auto guy" that would help you. The local senior center or VFW hall have "auto guys" . If you were within 50 miles of 83501 I'd come do it for you.

Removal & Installation Raise and support the vehicle.
    Remove the engine splash shield.
  1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
  2. Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
  3. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
  4. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.
To install:
  1. Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
  2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
  3. Install the drive belt to the alternator.
  4. Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
  5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
  6. Install the engine splash shield.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

It's O.K. to ask for some help.

Does a Hyundai 2002 1.6L DOHC have a timing belt or chain? If it's a chain, does it need to be replaced?

If you have an Accent which I believe that you do, it has a belt which needs to be changed every 60-80k miles. This vehicle has what is called an interference engine which basically means that if the belt breaks, the engine will continue to turn BUT the camshaft stops. If any of the valves are open the piston will slam into the open valve (interfere) and you will be looking at a new engine. I would recommend changing the water pump at the same time as well as the tensioner. I would also have the pulleys inspected by a professional mechanic and replaced as needed. If you just change the belt and the tensioner or the pulleys are weak then you can have premature breakage.
