Turn the key to on, turn on the radio, use the preset keys to enter your 5 digit radio code. If it will not let you enter the code, you may have tried too many times which will lock the radio. To fix this, disconnect your battery cables and let it sit for 1 minute, then reconnect them and try the code again.
If it is the correct code, you may have entered it a few times & locked the system. Either disconnect the battery & wait a minute & reconnect & retry, or pull the radio fuse & retry after waiting a minute & reinstalling.

If the radio is disconnected from the power supply, it is not operational when re-connected. After switching on the ignition and the radio, the readout CODE appears in the display.
The code number for the radio is advised to you on the enclosed CODE CARD.
To enter the first digit of the code number, you have to continue pressing station button 1 until the correct digit appears in the display. Adopt the same procedure for the second, third and fourth digits.
Once you have entered the correct code number with the station buttons 1, 2, 3, 4 and confirmed the entry with the SEEK button (press down), the readout CODE disappears. The radio can now be operated.
If you enter a wrong code three times, you must wait 15 minutes before making a new entry. In addition, if 9 incorrect entries are made, the radio will then not operate for 24 hours. During this time the radio and the ignition (terminal 15) must remain switched on.

If the radio is disconnected from the power supply, it cannot be operated by simply reconnecting. After switching on the ignition and the radio the word "CODE" appears in the display on the radio.
The code number for the radio is given on the enclosed CODE CARD.
Enter the code number with the station button, e.g. number 1, station button 1. After entering the first number the word "CODE" disappears and the number entered appears followed by 4 dashes. The next character to be entered flashes. After entering all five numbers, the first character starts flashing again. In this state the code number can be written over as frequently as desired. A correction can be made only by entering the complete code number again.
Confirm code number: Press TUNE, AUTO/SEEK or SC button. The radio automatically switches on and indicates the radio station or frequency stored with station button 1.
If an incorrect code number is entered and confirmed, the word "CODE" appears again on the display. If an incorrect code is entered three times the word "WAIT" appears on the display and the radio locks up for approx. 10 min. If the code is entered incorrectly three times again the radio locks up again for 10 min. Three more incorrect entries (a total of 9 incorrect attempts) increase the lock-up time to 60 min. Another three incorrect entries lock up the radio for another 60 min. The waiting time runs only when the radio is switched on.
This is the anti-theft device on your factory radio. When the battery died, the radio thought it had been removed from your car and went into anti-theft mode. When you turned the car back on, the radio should have read "CODE" on the display, at which point you need to enter the factory anti-theft code. After 3 failed attempts at entering the code, it will simply read "OFF" and the radio is locked.
At this point: - find your factory anti-theft code - it should be in your owner's manual, or you can contact a dealer to retrieve it - turn the key to the ACC position (radio and accessories on, but engine is off) - turn on the radio so the display reads "OFF" - let the car sit for 1 hour - radio will turn off automatically and reset - turn the radio on again, and it should read "CODE" - enter the factory anti-theft code
Make sure you have the code before starting the procedure. To enter the code, use the radio preset buttons. For example, if your code is "4321", hit Preset #1 button four times, Preset #2 three times, Preset #3 two times, and Preset #4 one time. Then hit the "Tape" or "CD" button. Radio should now be unlocked.
1 - Check your owners manual. Sometimes the code is written in there. It is a security code that locks the radio and renders it useless unless you enter the code to thwart thieves.
2 - Call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 and go to option #5. The representative will ask you for your VIN # and some personal info like phone #, address and radio serial # (press 1, 6 and "on" button on your radio at the same time, record 10 digit code). They then proceeded to have you get in your car to try different codes.
09. Press 139010 then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by * (start)
10. Enter the number from STEP 6 then * (star)
11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice
12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11
14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to SEC Your radio is now “un-locked” and usable. The Theft-Deterrent feature is STILL active! If you want to disable it, use the instruction in your Owner’s manual. Use the code from STEP 11 instead of your personal code.
turn the radio off push preset buttons 1 &6 while holding these buttons turn on the radio the serial# will come up call the dealer with this # they should give you the radio code if you have a problem write back i can get it for you if you have error on the radio then disconnect the battery cable neg for aprx. 30 seconds reconnect the enter the code using your preset buttons
If you don't have the code, you probably will have to pay a dealer to get it for you. My dealer said it was on the back of the radio and he had to remove it to find it. I have no idea if this is true.
As to the other problem of entering the code 3 times, and it now showing "off" instead. Simply put your ignition in the accessory position for approximately one hour. "Code" will magically reappear.
This applies to the 2000 Gallant. My code is 7357 if you wish to try it.
