$550 ? That seems way out of line. Check with another mechanic or you can purchase a special mass airflow sensor cleaning solution in an aerosol can that you simply spray on the sensor element. I have used this before and had good success with it. Please rate my answer, thanks.

remove the neg batt cable for about 5 mins. then rehook cable. start engine and comp will reconize the new part.

That's a characteristic of Nissan engines when the mass airflow sensor is not working. My 1990 300ZX was set up the same way - when the mass air sensor fails, the car won't rev above 2500RPM in order to safeguard the engine. Get some air intake/throttle body cleaner and clean the mass air sensor. Get some electrical contact cleaner and clean the electrical contacts on the harness plug that plugs into the sensor. If that doesn't cure the problem, you'll need a new sensor.

The mass air sensor is in the 3-4" diameter pipe between the airbox and the throttle body.

I had a 1995 nissan pick up with a similar problem, may want to try cleaning out or replacing the EGR valve.

the only way to really solve this is by looking at it and tracing back, not meaning to be cheeky its like me saying i have a leaking roof, you need to really see whr the problem is, before saying, sorry i Na much help on this occasion, it could be a number of things, the best way to see if it is the gasket is to clean up around the leek and keep a close eye on where it maybe cumming from

look to the left of the air filter for a module with 1 vaccuum hose and three wires. It may be labled as a boost sensor. I had a 97 XE and that's where mine is
