1996 buick century stalls only when there is moisture or rain

I have a 1996 Buick Century 3.1L V6 that only stalls when it rains or it is wet outside. Once the engine heats up it runs perfectly fine, but it takes about 15-20 minutes to get running smooth. I am not sure what this could be. My check engine light came on and it says a code P1441 -EVAP System- no flow during purge cycle. I thought this might be the egr valvce gasket and replaced that, however the problem is still there. I need some idea of what it could be. Thank you

I would check the Mass Air flow sensor or crank shaft sensor. I would start with the Mass Air Flow first. Because it actually has the outside air running across it. You can buy a mass air sensor cleaning kit but you have take apart the air flow vent to get to it to clean it. And sometimes it don't help you have to just replace it. Its not a major repair. And not that hard to do. Call around for best price. Any little shop can do this. ...About the crankshaft sensor I've seen them go bad but ussally the car want start at all. So check 2nd...Hope this helps

SOURCE: 96 Buick Century can't pass imisions code P1441

P1441, EVAP Emissions System Flow During Non-Purge.
you seem to have an evap problem these problems are hard to diagnose sometimes it can only be the gas cap or maybe rust around the seat of the gaz cap
get the code erase and see if it comes back on and if it does check gas cap and arroung the filling neck if there is rust if no visible rust apears you will have to get it check with smoke to see where it leaks

hope it will help you

Have a great day

SOURCE: need buick century egr diagram

If your car runs bad with an EGR code then I would suggest that the EGR valve be replaced. I would like to know what code was set on your computer. It would help greatly. When the EGR malfunctions, you will have rough idle and possible stalling. If you have a code indicating EGR it may also condem the cat converter. Please show any codes that are set. Thanks Moe

SOURCE: 1996 Buick Century 3.1L V6 P1441 EVAP Problems.

I work at autozone and as the man said the evap system maybe the fault that can up on the obd 2 code reader but if no ither codes came up then you
can have a problem that is not code related ( as early car 96 to 2000 the service light only covers things that are in the pollution part of the engine..
the newer cars the service engine / malfunction light will come on for many other things
if your egr is not seating on idle then you would stall at a stop if you egr stays closed then your car would be polluting and could not pass e-check
if the car is not running properly and it has a multiport fuel injected system /coilpack system
change the cranksensor ..If you have a distributor
change the pickup coil/ ignition control module
these are both in the distributor...
as long as you have good wires & plugs you should be in good shape

I have a 2001 Buick Century and every once in a while it will completely stall out when driving. It seems to happen when it has been raining or even if left outside garage after a snow storm

possibly getting moisture in the distributor....check the wires ...crack cap?..you can see a short at night in the dark start car and look inside the hood for and shorts around the distributor....check fuel pump as well it may be a fuel pump starting to go

A 1996 Buick Century Costom with a wet floor (a puddle of water)in the back seat. I have mystery water in my passenger back seat. I have poured water on the car to dupicate rain and find the leak. The door...

You forgot to add WIND to your experiment! Poured water is not driven water and sometiomes the pressure and VACUUM of the moving vehicle is the problem. As you drive a vacuum is created around any area not directly exposed to the airflow. This can "pull-up" seals that are tight when you are still, and also there is a possiblity that the water came from underneath your car!!

2003 Buick Century - window problem

I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Buick Century. In my case, the driver's side front window one day went up and would not come down. I knew that the switch was malfunctioning by sticking in the up position since the window continued up despite the fact that Iet off the switch when the window was half way up and it continued going up. I had to pull over and pull the master switch assembly from the door panel and unplug it to prevent the window motor from being damaged by the constant power feeding it after the window was up. Basically, it would have burned the motor out. I cleaned the switch and it now works fine most of the time. I still need to replace the assembly. Not sure this is the reason in your case. I would check the back window and see if it goes down with the switch on the back door panel. If it does, then you are having problem with the master switch assembly on your front door panel. Moisture from rain from the window being down during rain or dirt may have corroded the switches' contacts.
