Ok, this is a little tricky, open the cubby hole/ arm rest, lift up the little mat in the bottom (if you still have it) there will be two bolts under there, take them out, then, where the piece that you just worked on meets the area where the gear shift is, there will be a screw on each side, take both out, set the e-brake, and slide the cubby console off the e brake, then if you look down in the hole, you will see a small 2-wire harness that you have to twist out, thats where the light is, Hope this helps! I have a 1998 Toyota Corolla LE. Was helpful, but missing some helpful hints. I just changed the bulb today. The bulb is a sylvania 2723. After taking out the two bolts and two screws from the cubby console, you need to lift the front of the cubby console about a half inch or so. It has plastic hooks that need to be lifted up before the cubby console can move back and up. Next, the bulb was approximately under the "L" of the shifter. Do yourself a favor and get a flash lite and a mirror so you can see the wires and bulb socket. Looking down from the top, the bulb socket turns clockwise to remove. I have big hands and it was tough to turn the socket to a position where it could be pulled down and out. The wires are short, but sufficient length to change the bulb. A kid could probably reach in and turn the socket easily. Hope this is helpful.

How to replace gear shift light bulb in a 2001 toyota echo

The center console piece around the floor shifter should normally be held in place with plastic clips ( some are held with screws ) and should just pop up with a gentle tug. The bulb can then be accessed for replacement

I don't know what light bulb to put in the gear shift

It wouldn't even be in a repair manual-seldom needing replacement. Where is it? If on the instrument panel- hard to get to- the cluster has to come out to replace the bulb. If on the center console-much easier- just pull the top of the console off, shifter, indicator there? The bulb should be easy to get to from there.

Smell something burning coming from gear shifter

Are all your gear indicators correctly lit on the shifter? On my car the continual heat of the shifter bulb over the years damaged the plastic holding the bulb socket so that the bulb and socket fell straight down and ended up in the carpet under the shifter, with the hot bulb in the carpet causing the burning smell. The fix? Take the console apart to access the bulb, replace the bulb with an LED one with no heat to speak of, then use electrical tape to hold the bulb and socket in the damaged hole in the console, then reassemble the console.

Light in toyota corolla VE 98, automatic gear shifter is not working how to fix it?

you have to remove the screws (or bolts) inside the center console compartment. pry up the little ring around the shifter. pull up the e-brake and pull that whole assembly up. once removed there is a small 194 bulb located on the drivers side on the bottom. you should see the little black base. twist counterclockwise to remove. replace bulb and reinstall

Used toyota corolla 96' gear shifter light

There is a bulb under the shifter. It is probably burned out.

You need to purchase a number 194 bulb at an auto parts store. Next, you need to remove the entire center console to gain access to the socket that holds the bulb. This is fairly easy. After the console is removed, look under the shifter assembly to locate the socket.

A FixYa rating (4 blue diamonds) would be greatly appreciated for my assistance.

Clock bulb replacement

Sisters car has the same thing. I don't think they have a bulb to light up the clock. I'm not too sure. I might try again I had to repair the aircon switch before.

How to remove the clock.

You have to remove the center console to remove the clock. (Manual car version)

-Unscrew gear knob.
-Pull out gear shifter cover surround.
-Remove cover plate with small flat blade in little tray aft of the gear stick.
-Remove 2 screws revealed by cover.
-Remove 2 screws 1 on either side of the AFT (not middle) end of the center console.
-Remove aft half of center console.
-Remove 2 screws 1 on either side fwd of air con controls.
-Remove 1 screw underneath ash tray.
-Remove hazard switch and other switch next to clock using a flat blade to pry them out.
-Unclip switches disconnect plugs.
-Remove 2 screws revealed behind switches.
-Take your time to remove fwd console / dash trim (extra screws might be there to take out).
-Disconnect clock plug.
-Remove clock.

Let me know if there is a bulb in there
