Re: 2001 Subaru Forester - check engine light won't turn off

Re: 2001 Subaru Forester - I filled the gas tank yesterday and my check engine light came on this am. I unscrewed the gas cap and rescrewed it until I heard several clicks. The check engine light is still on. Do I have to take it to a dealer to clear the light?

Undo the negative battery terminal for around 10 to 15 minutes and then put it back on and the light should be out. it resets the computer

Why I can't fill gas tank on Subaru Forester? It shut off as if the gas tank is full .

the vent control valve on the charcoal canister is clogged or stuck preventing the air to escape from the gas tank causing the gas to back up in the fill tube and shut off the pump. if this is the case your check engine light should be on... P1443 indicates a problem with the evap vent control solenoid valve. some auto part stores will get the codes from your vehicle for free and tell you what could be causing it. although you have to be careful some codes can be caused by one thing and be the cause for the code on another part. an example is your problem, a clogged vent hose from the gas tank to the vent solenoid can throw this code or it can be the valve itself.

I have a 2010 subaru forester that i cannot refuel when check engine light is on

Although I have never encountered this issue on my own 2010 Forester, I would say that this may be a fuel system problem with a sensor or component. The place to resolve this is at a Subaru service department.

Can't put gas into my 2010 subaru forester

Having same issue with my 2010 subaru - seems common although the dealer refuses to admit it. P0453 CEL code indicates a problem with the EVAP - this came on a few days before I was no longer able to refuel. THey say I need a new Fuel Tank Pressure sensor. Essentially the fuel tank valve is closed, when it should be open when the ignition is off. Wating 4 days for the part, hopefully thats what it is. WHat ended up fixing your problem Tom?

1999 Subaru Forester check engine light on.

Take it to your parts store and have the code read. They make those lights for a reason...helps you identify the system failure

Check engine light is on, but hand held code

Try another scanner before you get too involved. I have seen scanners go bad when it was not the connection. Good luck and have a great day.

Subaru forester check engine light came on. Found oil low, added oil, check engine light still on. Is this normal? How does the light turn off?

no not nornal, you need to get it plugged in to a diagnostic computer to see which sensor set it off it means you have something that needs to be looked at,low oil could be a coincidence

Gas guage said 1/4 tank pump kept shutting off like it was full

I have the dealer that sold me the vehicle checking the rear end, the sensor that needs to be replaced, and the gas fill problem. I will get back to you after I hear back from them. I took my car to them yesterday morning, so haven't heard yet.
Thank you for writing, I'll let you know. Judy
