Light came on and my lever to open the door to my gas cap will not open.it is a 2005 x type

...Check the flat spring that kick the gas cap cover door open, two plastic holding the spring on the either side must missing, try any plastic and glue it there to not lost again and put some lube at the door hinge and the key bolt, they will pop open wide..

If you purchased an aftermarket fuel cap that will be the problem. It needs to be a OEM from the dealer.

Some cars from these company's have security device on the gas doors. Some cars have to have both front doors unlocked before the gas door will open and some cars have a panel in the trunk with a rope or a lever behind them

I have been attempting to download a Quattroporte owner's manual on line. Can't find one.
Try this out. Very often with automobiles that have a locking gas door. Inside the trunk there will be a wire cable that you can pull in an emergency. I have a locking door, over the gas cap in my car.
I have to push that the opposite end that the door opens and then the door opens. In other words. the user opens the door by pushing in from the opposite end from where it opens.because the door is perfectly flush with the car body.
Often cars have a lever to pull parallel to the lower door edge next to the driver.

Should be a button or lever either under the left side of your seat, or by your light knob. push button or pull lever, if door does not open then you have either a broken/stretched cable (if you have a pull lever type release) or most likely a frozen (as in not moving, not literally) gas door lock. Hope this helps!

Check to see if your lever is broken under neat so you are not ablle to pul cable to open it.

Check inside the trunk. There's usually a Pull tab type cord that will spring the gas cover door open.

pop the trunk, same side as gas door pull the interior carpet down or back. Look for a wire with a loop on the end, pull it. "The door should open

I had the same problem. My gas door wouldn't open when I pulled the lever. My boyfriend was just messing around with my car one day and he connected a medium-sized spring to the bolt on the lower right corner...below where the gas cap goes. Now the door opens automatically when the lever is pulled. Hope this helps.

my Jaguar X Type gas cap "sticks". I can open it by wedging a corner of a credit card in the left side or the cover, then go in the car and pull the lever. There are two flimsy metal bands that hold the cover in place and they sometimes bend and then the release doesn't work.  it should open easily with the credit card wedged in; then bend back the metal bands into shape.
