If the flex pipe is bad, there is no way of fixing it right, you will need to figure out what size of pipe you need, and go and buy a new section from a autoparts store, and have it welded on really good.

This could be caused by the deterioration of this small flexible coupler located in the steering column. The good news is you don't need to have the entire steering column or intermediate shaft replaced as most people think. This tiny, $2.00 flexible coupler and two hours of labor could be the answer to your problem.

Usually a worn front or rear motor mount causing the engine to flex back and forth more than normal causing the flexpipe to bend excessively and tearing open .also road salt and snow areas cause them to rust out faster.
Timing belts do wear out - they flex and bend literally millions of times while they last. If you are having problems with timing belts wearing out before their rated lifespan, check the timing gears for misalignment, burrs, wear, or improper lubrication. Worn crank, camshaft or belt tensioner bearings may also cause problems with the belt. Also make sure the belt tensioner is working properly, with the rated amount of tensioning force.
at the exhaust manifold there is a flex joint in the exhaust pipe
what you describe indicates that that flex section has failed and need replacing

well the flex pipe is a good price at $319 because it will bolt on, if you get a universal one your gonna have to get it welded and what a pain it is,,,,the 10,100,000 mile warranty only cover like nothing,so this is not covered sorry Hyundai is strict with the warranty only major internal engine or trans repair does it cover,,i would just pay the $319,,,thats cheap for this repair
I have a 2001 Elantra, and the Check Engine light keeps coming on. Replaced the o2 sensor, 3 times, and flex pipe was replaced. The engine light came back on...original fault code was P0133............any ideas??
Try checking the heat shields on the exhaust pipe up front under the car. Alot of times they will loosen up, and begin to rattle. You can ither remove them, or try to clamp them.
