Yes you would need to take the oil pan off from the bottom of the engine.

Because you are replacing the motor i assume you threw a rod or did something internally went wrong. i would recomend getting a new oil pan or use the oil pan from the motor that is good it shouldnt mateer about the 4x4

Vortec 4.3 engine v6 oil leaking about one quart a week. could it only be the oil pan leaking?

There are alot of places where oil leaks out. The most common places on this engine are the front and rear crankshaft seals valve cover gaskets and yes, the oil pan.

try heating it with a heat gun, then slide a paint scraper in between the pan and trany

bad news its the aluminum one the hard one have to remove the front diff to get to it if its 4x4 did a few not easy

Fuel in the Oil Pan

Obviously for some reason it's dumping too much fuel. Did they erase codes after changing parts? Are they sure they put proper part on?
Could one of the new parts be faulty, yes. Have it scanned again & see what it turns up. By the way, I wouldn't go too far without changing that oil, & filter,then monitor the level every day for increase in level, indicating fuel in there again. Good way to ruin an engine, running it with gas in the oil.

Gas mixed in with engine oil

sounds like you have an injector that is staying open all the time,and dumping fuel all the time and not only when its time.It is most likely the one where the plug keeps fouling.The engine light is probally showing a misfire on that cylinder also,please take it to a qualified tech to have scanned and checked

If it's a "W" VIN (8th Digit) check the spider injector on the intake manifold. Throttle body will come off with the intake cover, ten 10mm bolts, and two 8mm holding the fuel lines in place. Once you move a few things and lift it off. (and unplug the big plug in the top that actually goes into the spider injector, about 12 prongs on it). Gently pry the spider out of the cradle on each side and squeeze the tabs and pull out each of the 6 injectors. If you take your time a novice can do it in about an hour.
