I have a 1998 dodge grand caravan with a 3.0 engine. The transmission was working fine one day and the next day 2nd gear just was not there. It was not slipping or anyhting, it was just like 2nd was not there. It would shif from 1st to 3rd after the van reach enough speed but only after 1 let off the gas. With the exception of 2nd gear, all other gears work and shift fine. No slipping, no hard shifting, no jerking, it all works great except for 2nd gear. When it is downshifting it goes from 3rd to 1st. Does anyone know what may be causing the?
Most likely the second gear section of the transmission has gone bad. There are 3 or 4 different gear sections or assemblies in an automatic transmission, when they go bad, they go bad.
