With it being in the bell housing, which I think is one of the stupidest tricks the auto industry has ever played on us,it just neans the transmission has to come out before you can get to it.Then pull the bell housing off.Plan on a good full day of work my friend.
The Chevrolet Equinox instrument panel fuse block is located on the passenger's side of the center console, to the left of the glove box near the floor. http://diychamber.com/2012/05/chevrolet-equinox-fuses-relays-circuit-breaker-schematic/
The starter motor will be a silver or black, cylinder shaped component to the left or right side at the rear of your motor going into the bell housing of your transmission.
Not sure if it applies to your Equinox as well, but there was an issue with the steerings intermidiate shaft. At least it was a problem on pick-ups like my brothers 05 Silverado.
The fix was a syringe to repack grease but that never lasted. Now there is an updated shaft that seems to have taken care of it.
check the heat covers on the exhaust system-from manifold down to cat converter on may be loose or damaged also check cover plate /inspection plate for bellhousing
It's a loose steering column. Remove the black plastic shield under the steering wheel. Lossen the bolt that holds the two shafts together, slide them together as far as they'll go, and re-tighten the bolt. It's that simple... to stop that annoying rattle.
