There is a rod/cable from the outside door handle (inside of the inner door panel) that has either come off or broken. You will need to take the inner door panel off and see what has happened.
Are you saying the inside door handle isnt snapped, but the door wont open by pulling on the inside door handle or is it the outside door handle thats not working??Both the inside and outside door handle has a spring and other components on the backside of the handle which cant really be seen unless you remove the whole door handle assembly. One of these components are most likely broken or the rod that attaches between each handle and the locking mechanism(part that locks into the door striker to keep the door closed and releases it too)might have come loose from the back of the handle. The outside handle is usually mounted to the door by pop rivets or bolts/nuts.The inside handle is usually mounted with screws, but it really depends on what kind of car youre driving.Youll probably have to remove the handle to inspect it for damage.Open the door and watch the locking mechanism for movement while youre pulling on the door handle. If it doesnt move when you pull on the handle, the handle is definitely broke or the rod has come loose from the back of the handle.
You need to remove the door trim to expose the inside mechanism that opens the door from the inside, look for a broken cable or a missing link to the inside handle, your problem will be there.
You can switch the door handles. Usually there is a plastic knob that's broken but there is one more on the other side that's not used. By switching sides on the handles you can install the unused knob instead. However you need to remove the door panels.
If it were me , I'd remove the inside door panel and take it from there. It may be that you can pry open the lock mechanism with a screw driver or a similar tool, allowing you to open the door - which obviously you must do. Even that, though, will not solve the cause of your problem. You may wind up at the dealer.
The outside door handle may be broken or may have become disconnected from the rod that allows the door to open. Sometimes the ther is a plastic clip that connects the rod to the door handle and could be broken any parts store will have replacement clips. Whatever the problem is, the door panel will have to be removed to be able to inspect the condition of the door handle and parts attaching to it.
This is a real problem, it sounds like your latch has broken. the only way to get the door open is to cut a hole in door to get to the latch and replace the door. Sorry for the bad news, you could try removing the case inside but that will get destroyed also and you still cant get to the latch.
replace the outside door handle. happened to me with same car, had to replace both handles. poor design causes the lifter arm to bend and eventally causes it to not lift enought to open the door.
