I have a 1991 Dodge B350 van that is having gauge issues. Neither the fuel gauge nor the temperature gauge is working, the spedometer is not working either. I have power getting to the board that these are all connected to, and I can get the fuel gauge needle to drop with no resistance, but do not know how to test the temperature gauge or the spedometer. Any hints on why these gauges are not working or how to test them? Grounding issues? The fuse is good & all power to the units is shut down when the fuse is removed.

This problem is due to a failure of the electronics that drive these gauge displays. What must be done is to have the instrument cluster removed from the car and sent out to a factory approved repair center for repair and upgrades. This is a common issue on the van
not like the old days it does not have an external regulator-it is integral with the alternator now, use a digital voltage meter to read the output at the rear of the alternator (large post)-is should be about 14.2 volts.
This is a clear indication that an engine bearing has failed. Usually the cheapest way to resolve this is to find a used engine and have it installed if you feel that the van still has some usable life left in it.
Could be a bad cluster. If one is cable driven, and the other electric. You could have a bad speed sensor in the transmission which will make the speedo not work.
may I suggest that you take a look at the dist. rotor when you thing the cam and crank are TDC,maybe some body restabbed the dist. to make up for excessive slop in the old chain, might have to restab or adjust the dist. hope it works let me know if you need any diagrams have a good day DB
