Question about 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva

1 Answer

97 Olds Achieva starts, then dies, gages crazy, then stop working

97 Olds Achieva was starting hard. Replaced starter and alternator. Then would start briefly then die, outside in 30 degrees. Would start inside heated building. Got started finally and drove down xway. Radio was going off and on, then various lights off and on; brake, check engine, air bag, then all gages stopped working. Engine was running smoothly the whole time, then just died when I stopped and parked it. Not enough juice in battery left to operate the power locks. Dim headlights. Before I drove it the computer was reading normal, then would go crazy and give fluid and air temp readings of -40, then jump to normal according to my friend who was working on it.

I have a 1998 Olds Achieva SC with a v-6 and auto transmission. It will not crank or even click. It has a new battery.

could be your alternator died. the battery might be showing 12 volts, but it might not have enough amps to start it.

Car wont start without a jump all lights on dash are on it starts then dies right away on 97 olds achieva

Seems you may have more than one problem. A few questions you must answer first. If you have to jump it to start it,then your battery is dead are you have a draw draining the battery. Now if it dies right away look at your security light and see if it is on. Probably your security system is thinking someone stole the battery and shuts the fuel system down. Change the battery and Google the reset security system on 1997 Olds Achieva and you probably be set to go

Starter 97 Oldsmobile achieva

I doubt it.
If the engine is cranking, the starter is working.
If the engine will not start, you need to know if you have spark at the plugs, fuel pressure at the injectors, and normal compression.

REPLACED STARTER THEN RECHARGED BATTERY CAR STARTED FINE THEN DROVE FINE THEN GAGES ON DASH STARTED GOING CRAZY ALONG WITH RADIO THEN CAR ACTING LIKE IT WANTS TO DIE NOW WONT START

sounds like your battery is dying,, have it LOAD tested,, it could show 12 volts, but the amperage isn't up to par,, even with one bad cell the battery will drain , also,, once you know its fully charged, start the vehicle,, use a meter at the battery posts to check the voltage,, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job, make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.

Engine light stays on a 97 olds achieva sl

Engine light stays on, low coolant light stays on , recently had a plastic housing replaced that was leaking, it was linked to thermostat, tranmission coolant, heater ect. Had the thermostat replaced also. Level of coolant is fine, does't overheat anymore, but now the starter wants to spin a couple of times and then it starts. The car has no rust, would like to hang on to it

Starts but then it shuts off

Make sure those 3 wires on the passlock sensor are good. That sensor is on the lock cylinder on the right side of the steering column. You may want to check the wires on the ignition switch also.(green,black).But I would look at the sensor 1st since that is where they hook up those remote starters as far as I know.
