If you believe its the pump then while the vehicle is running put a stetscope to it and listen for it to buzz. if still not sure remove the belt (after checking it for wear) and grab the pump's pulley and see if there is any play in it. If so replace the pump. usually under the pump you will find its weep hole. if there is a puddeling of coolant comming out of this hole the pump is defective. Keep me posted

The symptoms would be the car overheating and not cooling down, Also in some cases the water pump will leak. With a overheating problem its always a good idea to check the thermostat before jumping to water pump. Hope this helped =)

Excessive black exhaust on 2003 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel.

This is what i would try (cheapest first) redexe/wyyns
injector cleaner, double dose, then i have put 1gal gas in 10gal diesel to increase burn temp (you may encounter a hot start problem temporarilly)then if still smoking, get a compresion check on the engine(this will tell you volumes)
by the way the NATO tanks put in 1/3 gas in diesel to stop it freezing in arctic conditions.any more than 1/3 can result in problems.

How to replace a water pump on a 5.3 liter sierra

I suggest that you visit the autozone.com website and register the vehicle. It doesn't cost anything and will give you access to an online repair manual. The steps for replacing the water pump should be available there. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Changed fuel pump on 99 gmc sierra and has gone out again in less than 2 months, any suggestions what could be causing it?

Did you change the fuel filter? A partially clogged fuel filter will burn up a brand new pump. Otherwise I would suspect you just got a brand new bad fuel pump. Has happened to me twice, so it is possible. Some parts I pay more for to get the OEM brand. Fuel pumps, water pumps, heater core, etc. Any hard to replace part, I buy from the dealer or from a parts store that sells the OEM brand.

Changing a water pump on a 2005 GMC Pick-up

Open the hood of your truck. Look inside the engine bay. See the fan assembly and the pulley that the belt rides on. The water pump is behind the pulley. Changing water pumps can be somewhat of a task. Professional help will be needed for someone that can't find the waterpump.

The water pump is on the passenger side front of the engine; I had to drain the coolant, I kept the belt in place, then I removed the 3 bolts from the pulley to give me access to the bolts on the top (it will require a set of metric tools for it). Then I removed the passenger side front tire and the splash cover from under the car just above the tire, removed all bolts that holds the pump on the lower part of it, then removed the belt, scraped and clean very well the old gasket. The new water pump came with a new gasket, so I just got a gasket maker and applied to the gasket, so I did not have to do it again. Work backwords to reinstall everything, good time to replace the coolant and if you have not done yet, replace the thermostat valve along with any hose that may be cracked, rigid or enlarged (check the hoses to the heater core also). Please check your belts and hoses so you will not have to redo the process again.
