My camaro sat for 3 months with little to no gas in it. Before that it ran great, but now will sputter occasionaly but not stay running. It now has a little over a 1/4 tank of gas. Just replaced (and still wouldnt start afterward) Distr. cap and rotor, plugs and wires. Any help? 1988 Chevy Camaro V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 99000 miles 305 Throttle Body

It sounds to me like you might be having transmission problems. Check your transmission fluid and filter, and replace if you haven't done so already.

Sat for about 3 months and wont start

Put fresh gas in the tank along with Seafoam fuel system cleaner

Make sure you have spark at the plugs

Make sure fuel filter is not gummed up with varnish from dried up gas.

It should now start so long as the starter is working properly and it was in running condition before it sat.

Use starter fluid to help it get started.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED BOTH THE ALTERNATOR AND THE STARTER TESTED.THE CAR SHOULD STAY RUNNING OFF THE ALTERNATOR ONCE BOOSTED,IT SHOULD START OFF THE BATTERY WHEN FULLY CHARGED.

Black smoke when i start engine, very rough idle.

sounds like possible a sensor went bad or is loosly connected. O2 sensor??? Also check the air filter. Sounds like whatever it is, is making the truck run rich----that would be the black smoke.

Hope this helps
