I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX as well (158k miles). At first it would overheat when idling, and then my heater started working sporadically. It would blow cold air when idling, then hot air when driving. It would also cause my car to overheat. I would turn the temp to cold and the car temp would reduce. My coolant level would also drop to next to nothing every few months, but I never saw any pooling, or leaking from the radiator. I changed the water pump, thermostat, all the belts since I was there anyway, the water sensor and the radiator cap. After all this it was asymptomatic for 4 days, then the problems persisted. I took it to the mechanic and it was diagnosed with a blown head gasket. The test for it is fairly simple and runs ~$45 (1/2hr labor charge). I would try that before changing out more parts when you don’t need to.

Check you don't have a air lock in the cooling system, bleed the system by opening the bleeder valve on the water jacket, if there isn't one then remove the top rad hose and fill with coolant,

Your heater has apparently restricted the coolant flow....hopefully a good system back flushing will cure the problem....use a flush obtained from a parts house....I would buy the hose kit for flushing as well...good luck to you

I have a 2003 Honda Civic with 92,000 and I have a coolant leak that only occurs at night when the engine has cooled. I flushed my radiator and that helped for two days and then it started leaking again. The overflow seems to be more than full....The leak is running down the oil pan.

Not boiling?- Check and R&R Heat sending Unit Gage on the Radiator or somewhere on the engine maybe close to the Thermostat..

Have a 2000 honda civic and it overheats on idle. I JUST REPLACED THE RADIATOR,AND THE WATER PUMP ALSO REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT. so how could i fix this?

Make sure the electric radiator fan is going on at appropriate temperatures to cool the coolant down in the radiator. Make sure it's connected up and so on and so forth. Sometimes, sediment builds up in the coolant passages, causing the overheating to occur. Consider having it flushed out and replaced the coolant with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze to water. If pure antifreeze was used, instead of a 50/50 mixture, it can cause an overheat condition to occur as well.

Even after replacing the radiator, thermostat and

The problem with overheat is due to poor coolant circulating. The main culprit is the Radiator. When the radiator is clogging up, coolant can't be circulating. The stagnant coolant inside the engine water jacket keeps absorb heat from combustion chambers having no way to dissipate the heat then the engine is overheated. You can test the water pump by removing the thermostat, then hooking everything back. Open the radiator cap, then turn on the engine to see if water flowing down to several small tubes inside the radiator. If water can't go down fast enough to cause over flow at radiator opening then your 90 Legend Radiator already got clogged up. Replace with a new radiator, not even a rebuilt one. Good luck.

Vw passat 03 overheats when ac is on in peak traffic/stationary

since the water pump was replaced, make sure you don't have an air pocket in the cooling system. flush your cooling system again. remember, if all was well before the tune up/preventative maintanance, it's within those items that were replaced. I don't think it's the condensor, thats a/c related, but the radiator and water pump, well those can cause overheating problems. when the system overheats, you will feel it in the ac.

I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex, it has been over heating but only in stop and go traffic, never on the freeway, i have replaced, timing belt, water pump, cooling fan relay, cooling fan switch, flushed radiator. There is no white smoke coming from the tail pipe and the oil is clean, when the car gets hot i can smell the coolant pretty strong, car has never completly overheated gets about 3/4 of the way til red.

Want to find and replace water pump.

If your water pump isn't leaking or making a lot of noise (when the bearings go it makes a lot of noise, and it will leak),don't change it. Check the radiator cap, it could be shot, and it's a cheap fix. Next step would be to flush out the system. If u haven't done it in a long time, there could be a problem w/ rust and sediment plugging up the radiator, not allowing the coolant/water to circulate properly, causing it to overheat. Let me know how it goes. countrycurt0
