Make sure the car is in park, if that does not work, put it in neutral and try. Search for a button under the ignition key to release the key. Also turn the steering wheel so it is not in a locked position. Good luck!
Are you sure that in order to turn the key to the off position you need to push the key in and then turn it to off? That model may have a release button for the ignition located on the underneath side of the column.
remove the steering coloum trim. Turn the key to run position, Press locking button on back of steering coloum housing assembly, Remove lock cylinder, Disconnect the ground strap from lock preload spring ( if equiped ) . Make sure key is still in run position when you reinstall.
If the key is non functional and you cannot turn to run then you will need the tool in this picture
Ok, look under your steering column, theres a little circle that pops out then take a screwdriver or pen and push it through the hole and it will release your cylinder lock. there is a solenoid up there on the coulmn that when you have your car in park that is supposed to let it release and its not functioning properly.
IF YOU HAVE THE PROPER KEY AND IT IS NOT DAMMAGED BOTH SHOULD RELEASE WITHTHE TURN OF THE KEY... MIGHT HAVE TO WIGGLE THE STEERING COLOUM BACK AND FORTH SOME BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE RELEASED
Ahh, yes. As a Grand Prix owner myself, I had the same issue. The device that allows you to release your key is called a Shift Lock Solenoid. This engages/disengages when you press the release button on your shifter. img. ----> http://media.photobucket.com/image/shift%20lock%20solenoid%20grand%20prix/2003bonneville/DSC09480.jpg The most common thing for people to do is to slam your shifter into park. Please don't do that. It won't help, and in most cases cause more problems. To get you by for the time being, you can do one of two things. Carry a small pointy object to manually release it by removing the small round cover under your steering column. Take your object of choice and push it up into that hole and then turn your key back to get it out of the ignition. Or, get it fixed. Another trick when you are unable to get the key out is this, 1. Turn your radio off, and fans etc, so there is no noise. 2. Squeeze your shift release on the console a couple of times; you should hear a click in your column. If nothing happens, turn your key just a touch more towards the on position and continually squeeze the release till you hear the click in your column, then you are able to turn your key back to the lock position and pull out the key. Hope this helps.
is there a button on the botom of the stering column> sometimes you have a button you have to push to get the key to go to the lock position. you might take alook and see if theres a button there to release the lock
There is a hole under the steering column right near the ignition switch, if the key gets stuck, stick a pen or something in the hole, you will feel the little lever move and you can remove the key.
that is one part calls solenoid .it needs to be chenge , u may take it out and put it back , but , after taht u have make sure ur car is in park all times...but if u want one quick solution ,look under the steering column a bottom. You'll see this little spot
Remove the cover
Insert something small and long and it releases the key, great for when you move the car without a battery and other stuff.
try and turn your steering wheel a little bit left or right and and the same time try and turn the key when it turns toward the dash then try and turn the key back. try and repeat this several times if neccessary. this should work. please rate this solution. thanks
