I replaced the power steering pump and lines in my 1990 f250 with a 7.3L diesel. the high pressure line is leaking. there was a small piece in a plastic bag attached to the new high pressure line that looks like a plastic sleeve with a cap on it. where does this piece go and what purpose does it serve? could this be my problem?

did the hose get cracked or crimped when it was replaced may need new hose
SOURCE: Glow plugs
no this will not improve the performance of your diesel, the glow plugs are used to ignite the fuel at initial start up and then they turn off.

The gear box is a common problem on this model. That would be the place I would start. A cheap, temporary fix is to go to your local parts store and ask for Lucas Power Steering Stop-Leak. It will buy you some time.

Hello croddy327: My name is Roger and I will give you an answer. THe part you are talking about should be a air dam.The purpose of the dam is to cool the engine while driving. By design the dam catches air and diverts it up to the radiator. With out the dam the cars engine will run warmer of could over heat. Please rate the quality of this answer.
