Power steering leak

I replaced the power steering pump and lines in my 1990 f250 with a 7.3L diesel. the high pressure line is leaking. there was a small piece in a plastic bag attached to the new high pressure line that looks like a plastic sleeve with a cap on it. where does this piece go and what purpose does it serve? could this be my problem?

I believe there is an o-ring on that fitting that should have been replaced. Was that done?

SOURCE: Glow plugs

no this will not improve the performance of your diesel, the glow plugs are used to ignite the fuel at initial start up and then they turn off.

The gear box is a common problem on this model. That would be the place I would start. A cheap, temporary fix is to go to your local parts store and ask for Lucas Power Steering Stop-Leak. It will buy you some time.

SOURCE: plastic piece under car

Hello croddy327: My name is Roger and I will give you an answer. THe part you are talking about should be a air dam.The purpose of the dam is to cool the engine while driving. By design the dam catches air and diverts it up to the radiator. With out the dam the cars engine will run warmer of could over heat. Please rate the quality of this answer. If this answers your question? This is how we know you received the correct answer. Should you need more help please just ask. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

2005 chevy impala 3.4v6 power steering fluid leaking all over alternater and drive belt, car want hardly run,

Sounds like the high pressure power steering hose is leaking. Check it out and if so replace it along with the low pressure return line. If the lines are not leaking then the power steering pump could be the problem.

Power steering tank wont hold fluid and leaks out beside driver tire

Sounds like a blown power steering line. To confirm, wipe down all surfaces around the power steering unit including the lines. Replace the power steering fluid and start the engine. While 1 person is inside the truck, have them turn the wheel from side to side while another watches the area around the power steering unit paying very close attention around the lines. The high pressure line is the most common cause for leaking fluid. If there's no crack or kink in the line, the issue may be the fitting itself where it connects to the power steering pump. Both parts are pricey but replacing the high pressure line (about $150 at the dealer) is certainly less expensive than replacing the whole power steering unit itself.

The power steering resoivoir drains out after 1-2 hours

Hi:

Check to see if you have a Power Steering hose leak ,Open Hood and Have someone inside turing Steering wheel back and Forth slow. While you have a Light and Locate your Leak.

Power Steering System is a Sealed System, Sounds like you have a Hole in 1-of your Power Steering Fluid Lines(Pressure) More that likely. or Return line.

If its leaking at the Pump where your hoses go in it might just be a Rubber Seal. But the most common problem is a Hose is Busted Open.

I have a 2002 Ford F-250 Diesel 7.3 litre Super Duty truck. It is leaking oil from an area beneath the fuel filter. What part would I need to repair this leak?

there are 2 high pressure lines that attach to the high pressure pump near the front of the engine left side. the o rings leak. I would get them from the dealer, or a shop that does a lot of Diesel work. Its not a easy job.

Power steering pump leak

Usually it is the high pressure line. They have compressed fittings, and over time they begin to leak, due to the high pressure.
