Breaks will not work at random times?

My break pedal has to be pushed all the way down for the car to slow down or stop but other times it doesn't. When i push the break pedal, it has little to no resistance and the car doesn't slow down unless i push the pedal all the way to the floor. Even when the pedal is touching the floor, the breaks will not stop the car. The break pads were changed not too long ago and this will happen at random times. If i press the pedal again, it works, but not as good as i think it should be.

Hi this sounds like you have air in your system and either something is leaking and letting in air but if you have changed the pads did you make sure the lid was off the fluid bottle was taken off as pushing the pistons back in to the callipers can cause the seals on the master cylinder or slave cylinder could be at fault with air in the system if you pump the brakes they will for a bit then this is air, if you pump up the brakes , when it goes hard just keep presure on it then let off your foot slightly then press hard again and it dips but stays hard and you do the same till it hits the floor this is also air but not leaking just air in system the first bit will be something leaking...hope this helps

2005 dodge neon - revs high in park nuetral and tough to push break pedal down. mechanic doesn't know what it is. Anyone have this problem resolved before? Thanks

sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak. When you lose vacuum the brake booster doesn't operate right. You need to go too a different mechanic. Could be the idle selonoid staying open or even a bad brake booster or vacuum hose came off.

2002 Kia Sportage break tighening up where break pedal is hard to press down

Hello...get the vehicle back to the shop that worked on it....Sounds to me like one or more of the calipers won't release it's grip when you release the brake pedal or the master cylinder is locked...Think about it...it's like driving with your foot on the brake pedal....or maybe your power brake booster...anyway...Get it back to the shop that worked on it and bring your receipts for all the work done...Let me know what happens...I hope this was helpful...PEACE........

The break lights in my 87 lincoln town car do not work, but all the other lights work, so what needs fixed? We tried bulbs, fuses, break and blinker switches.

behind break pedal there is a brake light switch that works when pedal is pushed down. the switch may be out of adjustment or is bad! it should be located behind top of break pedal.

The break lights won't light when i push the breaks but they work for every thing else like 4ways turn signal but when i go to stop they dont light up i replaced the switch and the bulbs but still dont...

When you replaced the brake light switch did you adjust it so that it contacts when it should?
It isn't enough to just replace it, you need to adjust the pedal height to specifications in order to make the brake lights work correctly.

My break light swithes on sometimes without me even pressing the breaks. The break light also sometimes stays on even when I have taken my feet off the break. I have tried changed the break light switch...

Did you adjust the brake light switch correctly? To adjust the brake light switch, first press the brake pedal down a few inches, then pull the switch plunger rod out of the switch toward the brake pedal arm, as far as you can without using excessive force. Next, return the brake pedal to the pedal stop position against the pedal stop and pull the brake pedal toward the rear to push the brake light switch actuating plunger rod into the switch housing limited by the travel of the brake pedal arm rear travel stop position. This procedure automatically adjusts the brake light switch correctly.
If the brake lights still don't turn off with the brake pedal released, check the brake pedal arm for sticking or binding that is preventing the brake pedal arm from returning fully to the pedal stop when the brake is released.

2002 tahoe breaks lock up during driving

i would check front and rear brakes if rears are drum brakes i would inspect springs and hardware making sure everthing is conected and in place also make sure they are adjusted properly in the front and if rear disc i would make sure to grease caliper slides these allow caliper to move and its important that all moving brake parts are free push caliper pistons in alittle to see if they are sized or not booster is ok and most of the time when master goes it will leak where it meets booster and you will have a low brake pedal or no brakes

Toyota Camry 2000, break problem inconsistent

Could be a number of things. A lot of times the ABS sensors at the wheels get dirty. This is due to them being magnetic and a lot of brake pads are semi metallic so the dust sticks to the sensors and makes them fuction a little weird. Have someone clean the sensors. I try to pressure wash them everytime I wash the car. Hope this helps.
