I had to take my car in to get hooked up to a diagnostic machine because my Service Engine Soon light has been on for over 3 weeks. I had taken it to Advanced Auto first to have them check it out and their machine diagnosed it as a cooling problem but wasnt specific so i replaced the antifreeze but the light was still on. When I took it to my mechanic he called back & said my thermostat needed to be replaced & my transmission fluid needed to be changed...the final price was $420.00!!! That seems awful high to me since i've looked around online and the price for the thermostat's have all been around $20. Am i being ripped off???
I would say that sounds a bit steep for the job being performed.labor time on this is for a 2.2 liter engine is 1.1 hours and rest as follows 2.8 or 3.5 -engine1.7hours 4.2 or 4.3 is 1.3 hours and finally 5.3 or 6.0 is 1.5 hours. To drain and refill the transmission should only be .8 or eight tenths of an hour not even an hour on that max labor time to do the job shoul have been 2.5 hours x what ever the shop rate is plus parts and oil and tax. you do the math.
