Check the sensors on the transmission. May just be corrosion on the sensors or it may be a faulty sensor. Also, the torque converter bearing may have went bad due to the running it on low transmission fluid.
I've been doing research on these vans. Seems I remember that if the OD light flashes >>> fluid level is low. Also, I read where Ford wants you to overfill fluid so as to allow you to go around corners without loss of lubracation. By this time you may have melted it down and bought a Honda. I have a 95 Teal color and just in flawless shape, however it won;t go in reverse. Just follow the hood ornament and don;t look back...right ! ?
check to make sure manual shift linkage not loose disconnected or damaged.check transmission fluid also see if too low, transmission could be slipping lack or low on fluid,if all is good have transmission range sensor checked have vechicle code scan see if any shift pressure solenoid bad before assuming transmission has failed. if you buy second hand car taking a chance buying a lemon, if you just bought the car have honest mechanic check out transmission if bad owner sold car to you didnt tell you transmission bad i get refund find another car.
I believe it's not shifting to prevent damage to the transmission. Unfortunately you need a diagnostic tool to check the power control module for fault codes and see what the problem is. I know it sounds silly, but make sure you transmission fluid is not low.
its in a fuse panel in the front of your van its some where in the left or right hand side inside the van if you call auto parts store they will tell you exactly if you still have trouble finding it look in owners manuel
you need to check your owner manual and see what type of transmission fluid you use because it sounds as if its low give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if you have miss place your owner manual see if you can down low one at www.edmunds.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
CHECK TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL.IF ALL IS GOOD YOUR 2 - 3 SHIFT VALVE IS STICKING OR BINDING.GOVERNOR VALVE STICKING.YOU COULD HAVE STICKING OR BINDING ACCUMULATOR VALVE 3 - 2 CONTROL VALVE TV LIMIT VALVE 1 - 2 OR 2 - 3 SHIFT VALVE TRAIN.CHECK THE VACUUM VALVE IF EQUIPPED.USE HAND HELD VACUUM PUMP.PUMP VALVE TO 15 HGS. IF IT HOLD VACUUM OKAY IF DONT HOLD VACUUM VACUUM VALVE NEED REPLACING.
You most likely have a small leak, but be sure to check it in park, when engine is warm.It will not be correct,if it is not checked like this,a little low on transmission fluid is most likely not the problem.I would have the car checked for a bad vacuum in the engine compartment. Also, have the timing checked, these will have a big effect on the transmission to shift, and smooth.
