I know for some models that Ford had another Diesel timer for the glowplugs for severe weather. This timer was meant to keep the glowplugs on longer.

I had an 87 Ford Diesel and the top wires on the timer were tight and clean. For some reason when I loosened them and retightened the wires the timer worked better.

Many truckers use a Diesel additive and usually the fuelstops have modified Diesel for cold climates. I understand there is a Cetane rating for Diesel and Premium Diesel may help.

Hello, add some cetane booster to your diesel fuel & connect the block heater. Sounds like the glow plugs may be getting a little weak & not preheating the cylinders as they should.

2000 ford super duty 7.3 diesel will not cold start

you need to have the engine coolant switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

My truck will just turn over and not start when it gets cold ?

Being you don't say what eng you got, but with your problem I got to think it's got to be a 6.9. You've got a cold start problem. Either the 'Glow Plug' controller is bad or the glow plugs themselves are bad. Either way you need to take to someone who knows wnat they are doing. Don't mean the 'Ford' Dealership. They normally cost too much. Used to work for one. Just someone that you know that deals with desail engines.

Cold start up problems and engine runs bad and smokes white smoke

I believe you have a glow plug problem. How long does the (wait to start) light stay on before you try to start it.

1999 F250 SD 7.3L cold starting problem

Yes, my 2003 did the same with about 75k miles on it, stranded me on days it stayed under 40F unless I plugged in the block heater the night before, then it started like a champ. Dealer replaced the relay and a control unit under ESP warranty. There's no way to fix this one without throwing parts at it.
