As i was driving the van just stopped running and haven;t been able to start it since, she turns over but no spark.before that the motor ran soundly and smoothly.checked the fuses all are good.
Running then suddenly and abruptly stopped with no spark = broken timing belt. The Camshaft is not turning due to the timing belt being broken so you will not have any spark.
i was told that the 3.3ltr v6 has a timing chain not a belt . is there something else that would cause this problem? [email protected]i was told that the 3.3ltr v6 has a timing chain not a belt . is there something else that would cause this problem? [email protected]
Depends on the symptoms. If it make a huge clunk and it stopped...A broken, connecting rod, crankshaft, camshaft camshaft gear or crankshaft gear. If it just stopped and no strange noises... a number of engine sensors, on board computer module or an ignition unit. KellyDepends on the symptoms. The pump can be running but not pumping any fuel.
When it stops running you will need to figure out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors.
Once your belt snapped all of your cars power was running off of the battery (lights, radio, spark plugs, etc.), then your battery died. Therefore you have no power to turn your starter and apply a spark. Get someone to jump your car, once your car is started allow it to run for a little while to charger your battery back up. Batteries don't allways charge up properly either so you may end up needing a battery, depending on its age.
did this occour suddenly? if you can get someone to turn the A/C on briefly while your looking under the bonnet and look at the A/C pump. if you dont know what one it is wait untill they turn it on and find which pulley stops turning. because it sounds to me like your A/C pump has seized and if it engages and the pulley stops turning that would confirm it. once you know you can still drive it just dont turn the A/C on untill you get the compresser replaced
You can check for spark by taking off one of the spark plug wires and seeing if it will spark to the chasis ground.
To check for fuel, disconnect the fuel filter and see if fuel is being pumped or not. If you haven't replaced your fuel filter in some time, I would start there.
Check for spark in order to see if the engine's ignition system is working.
Add starting fluid to the intake to see if it starts for a few seconds.
If the car does start, then it's a fuel delivery problem such as a fuel pump or a computer that doesn't allow fuel injectors to pulse.
If it doesn't start, then the spark is likely not being delivered to the spark plugs.
One can double check this by using a spark tester for the spark plug boot removed from the spark plug and grounded to the chassis.
It could be a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. Also try replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires and having the timing checked. Good luck.
