Front Wiper Motor
Removal & Installation

NOTE A new wiper motor assembly comes with the linkage arm installed.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft

The wiper motor is located under the black cowl in the front. remove the cowl and follow the wiper arms till you hit the motor. Its not a hard job just tight in space.

It may sound pretty complicated, But the Escape happens to be one of the easiest out there, and fantastic for a beginner.

First place your floor mats on the windshield to protect it. Then lift the caps at the base of both wiper arms (mark them right and left) and remove them. (wiggle them a little bit while lifting). Take out the 8 plastic phillips head screws on the driver's half of the windshield cowling (the black plastic piece) and lift to remove. Unplug the wiper motor and remove the three 10mm bolts that hold the whole assembly in place. Lift out.

I have a 2004 Ford escape new battery new alternator still won't hold a charge mechanic says some wires are fried or needs replacing is this an easy fix or costly

Looking online this seems to be a common problem with Ford Escape models with the rear wiper motor being seized. you can test by checking the rear motor to see if it is hot or by removing the fuse for the rear wiper motor and see if the battery holds a charge again When switched off. If this is the case then replacement or service of the wiper motor should solve the issue.

If not you could do the same, one by one removal of the fuses to isolate the circuit that is causing the drain. Also check the tail gate contacts and switch's to ensure no light is staying on once the gate is closed. This might not be noticed.

How can I bypass the rear window wiper/washer motor so the front washer still works? 2010 Escape. Ford tells me I need to complete the circuit by having another motor installed.

What make , model & year vehicle ? The rear washer shouldn't have anything to do with the front one , nor the wiper motor for that matter .

Front wiper motor where is it located at in the engine compartment

Under the windshield cowling. You only need to remove the driver's side wiper arm and half of the cowling. It's probably the simplest wiper motor on the planet to change. Just take your time. I hope I've helped. If so please rate my assistance and leave a comment to help others in a similar situation. I did address this in more detail quite some time ago. If you research my previous answers you should be able to locate it without much difficulty. Thank you and happy holidays.
