No, I have not added any accessories to this car. I started the car this morning to let it warm up. When I came out to get in and put my key in to open the door, it cut off. The battery and brake light come on and went off for about 2 days. No, I have not added any accessories to this car. I started the car this morning to let it warm up. Do you have any aftermarket accessories such as lights, stereo amps, etc that draw more power than the stock alternator was designed for?Do you have any aftermarket accessories such as lights, stereo amps, etc that draw more power than the stock alternator was designed for?

Recheck your connections. This should of not caused severe damage if it just touched the frame for a second. All you did was ground out a power lead coming right from the battery positive post to the alternator. There shouldn't be anything between this cable except for a fuse link. If you burn the fuse link, I don't think your vehicle would start after that. Check your engine code for errors. this can be done at any auto parts store and usually for free.
their is a shout in one of the wires running from the alternater start at the alternater and work your way back from their. the alternater will test good as it shuts down for safty so the car will not just keep produceing electricity and start burnning wires.
you have a faulty alternater there is a speed sensor in the alternator that is linked to the power steering if the alternater isnt charging the steering wont work either replace the alternater and all should be ok
hi, if the battery light is lighting up then this indicates the battery isnt charging properly so what you need to do now is check that the alternater belt is tighten correctly and not slipping check all wires going to the alternater if they are ok then the chance are the alternater needs replacing.
Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
I have had the exact problem. I've changed altenator 3 times also and it has the same leak, but I've changed altenator an batterys over 2 year span. It just happend to me today after not driving it for 5 months. It's been in storage while I was away. Drive it fine for 2 days but today the radio kept shutting off and finally the car died right in the middle of the road. Bought a new battery because I had a warranty on last battery, but bought it just to get it home and in the driveway. Did you ever find out what was wrong with it?
sometimes you are just the unlucky soul that gets bum alternators or your battery in the truck has enough juce to crank it over but is almost dead and your alternator is burning up trying to charge a battery that wont accept a decent charge. plus clean the battery terminals
