It probally has an electronic shift control unit.I had a Honda Accord that did the same thing. It was located under passenger side floor mat. The unit would keep it from shifting out of gear,it overrides the manual override. I would call a dealer and ask if your car has one. But I say 70% chance your car has one too.

How to put 2007 Chrysler300 gear into natural when the car battery is dead and the key stopped working

If you're unable to push the gear shift into neutral in a 2007 Chrysler 300 when the car battery is dead and the key has stopped working, there is a solution that can help. You can locate the shift interlock override mechanism to manually put the vehicle into neutral. First, remove the plastic cover or cap located near the gear lever to reveal the shift interlock override slot. Insert a small screwdriver or a similar tool into the slot and apply gentle pressure while simultaneously attempting to move the gear lever into neutral. This should release the shift interlock mechanism and allow you to shift the car into neutral. It's important to exercise caution and consult the vehicle's manual for precise instructions tailored to your specific model, as the process may vary slightly.

Shift button does not let me shift gear into Drive or any shift

What type of vehicle? Most manufactures have an override button that will enable the vehicle to get into gear if there is a failure in the electronics. Have a look in your owners manual to see if your vehicle is equipped with an override and how to engage it.

How to disengage shift interlock when shifter stuck at P

Info on the shift interlock is usually found in the owners manual. If the solenoid that locks the shifter into park fails or the switch that activates it (probably located on the brake pedal since you have to step on the brake to select a drive gear) fails there is usually a way to manually override the system. Your owners manual should have that information.

Or ...do some sleuthing on line with a search engine. Just about guaranteed you are not the only Range Rover owner on the planet this has happened to.

Shift lock

It could possibly be a bad electrical connection or poor connection with the transmission. Did the mechanic get any error codes?

no override button. if all the fuses are good, then if i remember there is a switch by the shift lever that when you step on the brake it enables you to move the shifter.good luck

My honda accord 2003 automatic wont let me put gear shift from Park To drive. I cant press de button to make it get to drive

Sounds like your brake interlock is not working. You can manually override it. Check your owners manual, but there should be a small square around the trim around the shifter. Pry up the square and there is a release mechanism to manually release the solenoid. It should be covered in your owners manual how to override it.
I think to replace it you need to take apart the shifter trim.

I have a 2005 impala it will not come out of netural or drive into park i think its the button on the side of the shifter please let me know how to fix this thank you

It could be a couple of things. The first thing i would check is to make sure the brake lights work. The shift interlock requires a signal from the brake light switch to allow the shifter to move. If the switch dosn't work the shifter will be stuck in park.

There should be an shift interlock override somewhere near the shifter for situations such as this. Look in your owners manual for a more detailed location and instructions on using the override.

What is my shift override button for?

shift override - for when you need to take it out of park...I believe for towing or when battery is dead or some other component that keeps you from taking it out of park.

overdrive - good for travel, better fuel economy. There's divided opinion whether it should be on when driving town driving all the time. I'd suggest following owner's manual if you have one or experiment using it and not using it checking your mileage.

power button - bypasses the shifting solenoids that are "programmed" to shift at certain rpms for optimum fuel economy. Gives your car the capability to accelerate faster if needed.

Now the problem...if your car bogs down, as if the exhaust is backing up, it can be a clogged catalytic converter. If the car has not been tuned up in a while, that's not a bad idea anyway. If you think it is shifting improperly, use the power button and see if that helps improve anything. If it performs well using that instead of not, you may have other issues a professional should look into.

I can not get the Auto shift lever out of park

I initially tried to override the Brake / Transmission switch by disconnecting the battery but that did not work. I solved the problem by disconnecting the wiring from the actual gearbox, and manually moving the linkage at the gearbox. After doing that everything was re-connected and now works fine.
