Having problems with 2002 Chevy Silverado staying running. Acts like it isn't getting gas all the time. It cut out going down the hiway picked up again then cut out died and wouldn't start back. Had it towed in and started next day, ran a while then died again. Already replaced fuel filter. You can hear pump kick on sometimes when turning key on but sometimes not. What do I try next?

Still sounds like it's in the rear differential - even if you don't have a posi rear end, there are still a few things that can go wrong with it (worn or broken bearing race, broken teeth, bad pinion bearing, etc.).

you need to check the code that it set with a scanner and it will lead you to where to check to fix problem

FIRST CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE AT IDLE AND WHEN YOU TRY TO TAKE OFF.

Start with the simple and replace the fuel filter first. If it was the fuel pump, and being electric. It would have not restarted again if the pump has gone bad. The fuel filter should be replaced every 1,500 miles or once a year to ensure that your fuel system is running 100% and will not burn out your fuel pump early due to extra heat generated from working harder then is should. Good luck and keep me posted.

A bad ground or wire somewhere is pulling current from your battery when it's not running. Use a test light, try to find a circuit that is hot when it shouldn't be. It will take some time and patience.

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?

I had the same truck and it had lean codes.
The intake gaskets go bad causing too much air to enter the chambers. ITs the same gasket for the 4.8 and 5.3 litre motors.

upon tear down i found the fuel pressure regulator had fuel in it indicating the diaphram went bad.

Fixed and everythings all right.

BUT check your codes first I don't want to you to do a tear down with out knowing what the computer is doing first. Auto zone does free diagnostics and tell you what the codes are. Let me know I can guide you from there.

that has something to do with the reprograming of your ingition key if you are having not starting problems i will recomend you to leave it alon but if you wnat to be in the safe side then call one of the mobile locksmiths guy or take it to them to see if the key has to be reprogamed, and try using only one single key for the ignition,
