My 2002 mazda tribute gets a severe shudder. moisture intrusion?

My 2002 mazda tribute gets a severe shudder, cutting off sometimes. happens worst when it rains or is very humid [i'm in jax, fl...this is a problem].the gas cap light comes on. replaced cap. seemed to help a little. replaced some hoses that were old and brittle. that helped some, too. any ideas? thanks. [getting some white smoke. ideas for where to check for moisture intrusion might be helpful.]

The shudder comes from ignition malfunctions. Replace the spark plugs and plug wires.
Check coolant level for the white smoke concern.

bad sign that, get it checked, do not allow it to slip.
or it can get worse fast.

How do i get into my 2001 mazda tribute when i locked my keys inside

If you have a copy of your registration or other proof of ownership you can go to the dealership with the vin number and they should be able to cut you a key for it but most wont do it unless u can prove ownership some way

sounds like your idle air control valve, I had the same problem. pretty common for mazda tributes and ford escapes I'm told.. part runs about 90 bucks

2002 Mazda Tribute V6 difficult to start.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE IAC VALE OR IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE IS BAD, WHAT YOU CAN DO IS TAP ON THE VALVE. IT IS LOCATED ON THE INTAKE RIGHT BEHIND THE THROTTLE BODY, JUST TAP ON THE SILVER PART WITH THE BACK OF A SCREW DRIVER A COUPLE OF TIMES. THIS SHOULD UNSTICK THE VALVE AND YOUR TRIBUTE SHOULD RUN. THEN IT IS JUST A MATTER OF REPLACING THE VALVE. YOU CAN GET THEM FROM ANY AUTO PARTS HOUSE.

Mazda Tribute 2002 engine cuts out randomly

I had a Mazda 626 with a similar problem, the car seemed to 'shut down' with no warning, even at highway speeds, as if I just turned the ignition key to 'Off'; After trying to fix it unsuccessfully by replacing several electrical parts, the problem was found to be a defective ignition switch, it was replaced and the problem went away.

What codes were you getting? Answer to your fuel pump question, yes, but, could be numerous other things too. Lets try for codes first to try & narrow it down. if not sure, try parts store for free scan & go from there, it will be cheaper in the long run. If nothing else, perhaps a fuel filter change could be tried if not done recently.

2002 MAZDA TRIBUTE ALTERNATOR PROBLEM.

You might want to follow the wire(s) that go into your alternator are properly connected. If you have a bad connection on either side it will cause it to cut in and out and fry the coils in it.
