The fuel pressure regulator is located under the upper intake manifold or plenum. This large aluminum casting must be removed for access.I assume this is a 454 c.i.d.old body style pick up. 2000 was a split year for GM. Both old and new body styles.

My 98 gmc jimmy. Has trouble. Starting. For the first. Time. In the morning. Then it feels. Like. Pressure is low rpms have a pulse to it not steady rpms i changed egr value. Throttle position sensor. And...

It sounds like you have a restricted fuel flow, which could possibly be a weak fuel pump or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Do a fuel pressure test to see if your fuel is being restricted. If it's only in the morning, that means its loosing its pressure over night. That could also be caused by a bad fuel injector. Test your pressure first.

New fuel pump, new cap, plugs and wires, clean air filter. My 98 Jimmy sounds like its missing, it boughs down. Mass air flow regulator? Fuel regulator? Also using a lot of gas lately.

You are right, all of the symptoms are pointing to a fuel pressure regulator. Also try inspecting your vacuum line going to your fuel pressure regulator.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator on a 99 gmc suburban 2500 7.4l v8

5.7L And 7.4L Engines
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove the upper manifold assembly.
NOTE If the fuel pressure regulator is to be reinstalled, inspect the filter screen (if equipped) for contamination. If the filter screen is contaminated, replace the regulator.
  4. Disassemble the fuel pressure regulator snap ring retainer.
  5. Disassemble the regulator assembly and the O-rings.
  6. Discard the O-rings.

Have a 98 gmc 5.7 truck have to prime to start truck.

Sounds to me like either your pressure regulator is bad or you have a loose fitting somewhere in the fuel line from the fuel pump to the engine. When you turn your key to the on position, you should hear the whine of the fuel pump until it builds pressure. When you shut the truck off the pressure regulator should retain the pressure for a certain amount of time but if it don't close then air is allowed into the fuel line and the fuel drains down to fuel line away from the engine. Next time you try and start the truck after it has sat for a while try turning the key on until you hear the fuel pump whine shut off, then repeat it 3-5 times and then try to start it. Basically that is running the pump enough to get the fuel back up to the injectors. Check for loose fittings in the fuel line, or cracks in the fuel line and if all that is fine then replace the regulator.

Hope that helps

Fuel pressure regulator

How do you know that it is the regulator?
these 4.3 motors had a lot of trouble from 93 to 98, I know I had 2 of them.
What happened to mine was that the intake kept getting very carboned up. After I would clean it, the truck would run fine for about 5 or 6 months, then same thing.
Theres actually a class action lawsuit about this that I believe has been settled, you may have recourse if you bought it through a dealer. Good luck. You'll need it.
