Brake light/turn sigs dont work. But lights are on?

2004 pontiac grand prix brake lights and turn signals not working. Lights are all on all the way around the car, but the turn signals do not work and the brake lights dont come on when pressing brake pedal, also no hazards. The turn signal still makes ticking sound but just no blinking light? It blinks fast inside of car like when one light is out. Hazards blink normal inside of car but lights dont blink outside of car. But like i said they all are working and on when i turn car on...so????

Ok, GM had a problem with their hazard light switches in the years of around 2001-2005. These caused some bizarre workings concerning the hazards, lights, turn signals, etc. The circuits overlap, and when the switch malfunctions, it makes for some odd happenings. Normally, when the hazards are on, they cancel out the brake lights and the turn signals, since they use the same circuits. The normal taillights use a different filament in the same bulb, which is why they light up brighter when you press the brakes. The aftermarket has come up with replacement switches in response to these inherent problems, so do not get your switch from GM. Places like RockAuto.com will sell these, though not necessarily this place, it's just the one I use. Usually, GM put these in the steering column, so replacement can be tricky for the average person, as it involves taking apart some of the steering column.

Hello...

Looking at a schematic, it seems like all of these go to the BCM (Body Control Module). I recommend having a scan tool hooked up and see if there are any codes that begin with (B). If so, you should be able to look them up on the web with suggestion for further action.

FYI... If it is your BCM, that is an item that requires programming after installation.

Good Luck...

under the dash board, up behind the brake pedal mounted on a bracket, is the brake switch, that might be bad.

Brake lights

No it is not controlled by the BCM the issue is most likely caused by the turn signal switch itself, a bad internal connection, very common on GM cars and trucks.
